Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr is going to break all kinds of records. It is already predicted to be the biggest money event in boxing history with both fighters clearing nine figures. The New York Post reported earlier that Floyd is expected to take home north of $180 million for the fight with Manny Pacquiao expected to get more than $100 million for his part in the bout.
The betting odds for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao opened with Mayweather as a 2 ½ to 1 favorite. Money quickly poured in on the underdog, with wagers on Pacquiao racking up quickly. He started as a +230ish underdog at most betting sites. Pacman fans had no issue backing their man at +230 (wagering $100 for a chance to win $230).
Bookmakers have since adjusted the odds, bringing both fighters in closer to one another. Mayweather remains the betting favorite today at around -200 with Pacquiao sitting at around +160. Reports are that the bookmakers are having a hard time getting anyone to book action on Mayweather at any odds. This could be good news if you’re looking to bet the favorite. If you’re looking to back the Pacman, you need to get your wagers in ASAP.
Best Betting Sites for Pacquiao and Mayweather
The lines are converging down to similar numbers across the board. We’re still seeing minor differences at some sites, but you can see the best betting sites are all pretty close to agreeing on general line for each boxer. Keep your eyes open, because this can change at any time.
Finding the best betting site for the Mayweather-Pacquiao match is a matter of checking the lines at a few bookmakers and placing your bet at the place that offers the best odds for your fighter. You can see my comparison table above for quick reference.
The odds for Mayweather are pretty much the same across the board. All four of my trusted betting sites have him listed at 4/9 and 11/25. 888Sport is just ever so slightly worse at 11/25, but there’s not much of a difference.
Bet £1,000 on Mayweather at 4/9 and you’ll see a return of £1,444.44. Take him at 11/25 for the same amount and your return would be £1,440. It’s such a small difference that it doesn’t even matter down at the smaller side of things. Just bet at whichever bookmaker you like the most.
Meanwhile, the best betting odds for Pacquiao isn’t a question I can answer: all four bookmakers have him at 15/8. What this means for you is that if you wager £100 on Pacman, you stand to win £287.50 if he comes through with the victory. Who Should I Pick?
I’m not going to pretend to be a boxing analyst. My record in boxing betting is about 50-50. You could flip a coin and that’d be about the same as taking my advice. It’s not terrible; but it’s not special either. Hey, at least I’m honest.
However, I do have something for you casual gamblers to consider. The Mayweather line opened at around -300 before the fight was even official (bookmakers started posting lines months ago just in case). He has been pushed all the way down to around -200/-190ish. That’s quite a shift, isn’t it?
We have to wonder why this would be. Actually, it’s not that difficult to imagine what’s going on here. Some bookmakers have already said they are being overrun by underdog wagers for Pacquiao. And no matter how much they lower his payouts, people continue to flock to the fan favorite. It’s no big secret that Pacman has the edge in fandom, but the oddsmakers started him out as a major underdog.
Betting handle from the general (uninformed) public is causing bookmakers to adjust their odds so they don’t get completely overrun on the Pacman side. They don’t want to take a huge loss if Pacman does indeed win, so they adjust the odds in an effort to balance the scales.
The lower Mayweather’s odds go, the better a bet on him looks. He started out as a strong favorite and it would have taken a $300 bet just to win $100. Now, we’re getting as low as $192 to win that same $100. I’m a huge Pacquiao fan, but I am liking those Mayweather odds. That’s all I’m going to say on that matter.
