England v Brazil Betting – Luke Andrew’s Betting Tips
The Premier League is on a week-long break, with the attention shifting to international fixtures. With the Euros 2024 just three months away, England has an opportunity to fine-tune team selection and tactics with friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, two of the best-ranked teams in the world. In this article, our resident sports expert, Luke Andrews, previews the game against the Samba Boys and reveals the latest England v Brazil betting odds.
I must admit that I’m not the biggest fan of international breaks, especially at a time when domestic competition is at such a vital stage. However, with the Euros just around the corner, I’m intrigued to see how Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions will fare against one of the superpowers of international football, Brazil.
Although the team that starts on Saturday is unlikely to be the same group of players that plays in England’s opening fixture against Serbia on June 16, the game against Brazil and the fixture with Belgium on Tuesday is likely to be the last chances for players to impress the England manager and secure their spot for Germany.
The game is likely to be highly popular with football betting enthusiasts. England is backed well at the best online betting sites, and I’ll share the latest odds from our friends at bet365.
England v Brazil Betting – Team News
Saturday’s clash with Brazil will be the first time the two teams have met since a 0-0 draw in November 2017. Traditionally, the fixture has been challenging for the Three Lions, with just four wins in the 26 times the two teams have met (drawn 11, lost 11). However, they face Brazil in a rich run of form and are unbeaten in their last 20 Wembley appearances, their best run since a 24-match streak between 1984 and 1990.

England was disappointing in their last fixture, a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia, a team they thrashed 7-0 in June last year. Declan Rice’s shot struck the woodwork in the opening half, and VAR disallowed Jack Grealish’s early second-half goal. However, the team’s captain, Harry Kane, entered the game as a substitute and quickly influenced the match, causing Jani Atanasov to score an own goal, levelling the score following Phil Foden’s corner kick. North Macedonia had taken the lead in the 41st minute, thanks to a controversial penalty awarded against Rico Lewis. Jordan Pickford saved Enis Bardhi’s penalty, but the North Macedonian scored on the rebound.

The five-time World Cup winners go into the game with England in surprisingly poor form. In the 2022 World Cup, they suffered a shock defeat by Cameroon thanks to a 91-minute goal scored by Vincent Aboubakar. They beat South Korea 4-1 but lost 4-2 on penalties to Croatia after a 1-1 draw to end their tournament. In the three games after the World Cup, they have only won one, a 4-1 victory over Guinea, which was sandwiched between losses against Morocco (2-1) and Senegal (2-4).
In recent World Cup qualifier games, Brazil have been even worse, losing three games in a row against Uruguay (2-0), Columbia (2-1) and bitter rivals Argentina (0-1). The Brazilian’s place in the next World Cup would be in doubt in a regular World Cup qualification campaign. Still, due to the expanded competition in 2026, it would be a massive surprise if they didn’t finish in the top seven of the qualification table (six automatically qualify, and the seventh enter a play-off).
After sitting out of the full training session on Wednesday, Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson are doubts for the game. Bukayo Saka is a confirmed absence.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s coach, Dorival Junior, is losing six vital players due to injuries, notably the Arsenal trio of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli. Brazil is in such dire straights regarding injuries that the goalkeeper and three of the four defenders could likely win their first caps for Brazil. Manchester United’s Casemiro is also absent.

The first goalscorer market is popular with punters when football betting. Harry Kane, the England captain, is the bookmaker’s favourite to open the scoring. The Bayern Munich player has 31 goals in his first season in the Bundesliga, and if fit, he’s a natural choice.
“Kobbie Mainoo to open the scoring at 25/1 would be an amazing story and does appeal sentimentally, but I’d be shocked if Gareth starts the youngster. I’ll be backing Ivan Toney at 5/1 if Kane doesn’t start. The Brentford player is always a threat, and a good display could see him edge ahead of Ollie Watkins in Southgate’s squad selection for the Euros.” – Luke Andrews, Betting Expert – UK Market.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is also worth considering. The 27-year-old is in great form for the Hammers, scoring 14 goals and making three assists in the Premier League. For Brazil, Richarlison is the lowest-priced player; the Tottenham man is 9/1 to open the scoring.
