2023/24 Premier League Golden Glove Odds
In today’s article, Luke Andrews gives an in-depth look at the Premier League Golden Glove odds, highlighting which players could scoop the ultimate accolade for goalkeepers. Luke will also give an overview of the award and its past winners, from Petr Čech to David De Gea.
In the fiercely competitive arena of Premier League football, the Golden Glove emerges as a distinguished marker of goalkeeping brilliance. First introduced in the 2004–05 season as the Barclays Golden Glove, the award has experienced several name alterations due to evolving sponsorships. Nevertheless, its prestige has never waned and trying to predict the winner is a favourite with football betting fans.
Petr Čech, the inaugural recipient, established a yet-to-be-surpassed milestone of 24 clean sheets in one season.
Shifting the focus to the unfolding 2023/24 season, the battle for the Golden Glove is intensifying. At the forefront are Ederson and Alisson, the duo responsible for seizing five of the past six honours. Nipping at their heels are the likes of Nick Pope, Andre Onana, and Roberto Sanchez, along with Arsenal’s formidable pair of Ramsdale and Raya.

The Golden Glove transcends a mere trophy; it validates a goalkeeper’s indispensable role in the sport’s grand tapestry. A solitary save can be as transformative as netting a goal, safeguarding a team’s competitive standing, or altering the match’s trajectory. This relentless competition for the esteemed accolade has consequently elevated the standard of goalkeeping throughout the league, propelling keepers to unparalleled skill levels.
The clean sheet has become the standard of an excellent defensive performance, which means the team does not concede a goal for the entirety of the football match.
The Golden Glove Award is awarded to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the season. In case of a tie in the number of shutouts, both the keepers will be awarded the accolade regardless of the number of games they have played. The award couldn’t be shared before the 2013–14 season, and the goalkeeper with the better clean sheets-to-games ratio took home the prize.
The team with the most Premier League Golden Glove awards is Manchester City, who have won seven awards. Remarkably, only five clubs have had players who have won the Golden Glove.
Here is a list of the teams and the number of accolades they have won.
Golden Glove Awards Per Club | ||
---|---|---|
Team | Number of Players | Number of Awards won |
Manchester City | 2 | 7 |
Liverpool | 2 | 5 |
Chelsea | 2 | 4 |
Manchester United | 2 | 3 |
Arsenal | 2 | 2 |
Legendary goalkeepers Joe Hart and Thibaut Courtois hold the record for the most Golden Glove titles.
Pepe Reina was the pioneer in winning consecutive Golden Gloves, claiming the title for three successive seasons: 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08. Following in Reina’s footsteps, the Manchester City pair of Joe Hart achieved a hat-trick of titles in the seasons 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13, while Ederson secured back-to-back titles in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Number of Awards | Player Name | Seasons |
Four awards | Petr Čech | 2004–05, 2009–10, 2013–14, 2015–16 |

Three awards | Ederson | 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22 |
Pepe Reina | 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08 | |
Two awards | Alisson | 2018–19, 2021–22 |
David de Gea | 2017–18, 2022–23 |
Peter Cech, the first-ever recipient of the Golden Glove, stands alone as the only goalkeeper to have won the award with two different clubs: Arsenal and Chelsea.
Manchester United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea, clinched the 2022/23 Castrol Golden Glove award due to his exceptional performance. De Gea secured the award outright for the season, leaving his closest competitor, Alisson, behind when Liverpool conceded a goal against Aston Villa. With 16 clean sheets to his name, De Gea surpassed Alisson’s 14 and even added to his tally during Man Utd’s 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth. The Spaniard had an opportunity to increase his tally but conceded in the last two games of the season (Manchester United 4-1 Chelsea & Manchester United 2-1 Fulham).
We are guaranteed a new winner this season as David De Gea has left the club and, surprisingly, has yet to find a new club despite being a free agent. His replacement, Andre Onana, has found clean sheets hard to come by, with only three in eight games in all competitions.
The Award has improved the quality in defence, with teams treasuring keeping a clean sheet rather than outscoring opponents. This makes sense when you think about it, as you cannot lose a game if you prevent the opposition from scoring.
The highest number of clean sheets in a single season was set in the inaugural edition of the Award, with Cech managing twenty-four shutouts in his side’s title-winning season.
In the 2008-09 campaign, Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar achieved fourteen consecutive managing (1,311 minutes without conceding) clean sheets, surpassing Cech’s record of ten successive shutouts (1,025 minutes without conceding).
Overview of the Previous Winners of the Golden Glove award
As I’ve already mentioned, the first winner of the accolade is Peter Cech, who made twenty-four clean sheets, the highest number of shutouts since the Award began. He is tied with Hart as the most successful shot-stopper with four awards each.
Here is a complete list of former winners with their respective seasons, the club they play for their nationality and the number of clean sheets they managed in their golden season.

Ederson Premier League Golden Glove Odds – 8/13
The Brazilian has won three Golden Glove awards in the last three seasons and has the best odds (8/13) to win this edition. He has been a dominant figure in the Manchester City defence, changing the whole dynamic and approach of goalkeeping as a sweeper keeper.
Ederson is excellent with the ball, achieving an 84% pass accuracy and recording one assist. He was part of the team that won the treble and has been perfect for Pep Guardiola’s outfit since joining from Benfica.
Last season, he managed eleven shutouts, six less than the eventual winner, De Gea (seventeen). He would be motivated to go all the way and clinch this edition as he is the keeper with the best quality defence to cover him and doesn’t get tested occasionally.
He has a head start as one of four keepers to have two clean sheets alongside Fulham’s Bernand Leno, Tottenham Hotspur’s Gugliemo Vicario, and Chelsea’s Roberto Sanchez. They have conceded the least goals (three) in the league this campaign, and the way they dominate teams makes it hard for the opposition to have a glimpse of a goal.

City has more depth and quality than any other side. That’s why Ederson has the best odds (8/13 with bet365) to have the most shutouts this campaign.
“City have enjoyed clean sheets in 50% of their six Premier League games, and I expect this trend to continue. Although Ederson is short odds, I fancy him to claim the Golden Gloves this season. At 8/13 it would still represent an almost 50% return on your stake.” – Luke Andrews, Betting Expert – UK Market.
Alisson Becker Premier League Golden Glove Odds – 9/2
The Liverpool and Brazilian shot-stopper has been a revolutionary for his side, playing a critical part in their 2018-19 Champions League triumph and their first league triumph in thirty years.
The milestone he has achieved has made the Brazilian coach have a headache on who starts contesting for the number one spot, with Ederson eventually getting the nod at the World Cup. Alisson has a clear chance of winning as he looks more like a complete and traditional goalkeeper. He takes his assignment quite seriously, especially as they have something to prove, especially defensively.
The two-time Golden Glove winner is expected to have a great campaign after being let down by his side’s defence last season, which saw his side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp has since rejuvenated the team and has started the season brightly and are now clear contenders for the Premier League title.
Despite their struggles last season, he was the second-best shot-stopper in clean sheets, managing fourteen, with the dawn of a great start this campaign, raising his prospect of winning the accolade. They have kept one clean sheet in the campaign so far and look like a side that keeps improving, having changed their entire midfield. Alisson has made twenty-two saves this season already, and the return to form and fitness of his front line, especially Virgil Van Dijk, would be a tremendous positive output to his quest for a third award.
Nick Pope Premier League Golden Glove Odds – 10/1
When looking at the most improved goalkeeper in the Premier League, we would be looking at Nick Pope. He hopes to become the second English shot-stopper after legend Joe Hart, who has four awards.
His incredible performances have cemented his slot as a constant national team squad member, hoping to be the regular starter at the Euro24, and he will be chasing for the Golden Glove award to earn the starting slot.
He won two Saves of the Month (January and August) awards last season and was part of the joint-best team in the league, conceding just thirty-three goals.
Pope has been one of the most talented goalkeepers in the Premier League, with the move to the Magpies escalating his brilliance as a perfect fit to showcase his potential.
Having undergone a transitional campaign last season that saw them qualify for the Champions League, we expect Newcastle to improve their performances as they start the season more strongly than the previous campaign with an established backfour.

The solidity and consistency are significant positives for Pope, who will have great defensive cover to add to his shot-stopping skills.
Andre Onana and Robert Sanchez Premier League Golden Glove Odds – 16/1
Brought in to replace the reigning Golden Glove Champion, David De Gea, Onana has enormous gloves to fill. It was a massive surprise that Eric Ten Hag decided to let such an iconic shot-stopper delivering exceptional performances for the Red Devils go so quickly. The main reason would be to bring in a ball-playing goalkeeper such as Onana, who they worked with in Ajax, to try to work on building play from the back.
Onana had an incredible spell at Inter Milan, leading his side to the Champions League finals. The Cameroon international has a pass accuracy of 79.1% and makes outstanding saves. He, however, doesn’t have sufficient cover from his defence, especially now with injuries plaguing the best defensive four that gave De Gea the best defensive work to win the Golden Glove and has been making some avoidable errors. To have a chance at the Award, he must improve his performance in goal.
Robert Sanchez – It will be hard to determine if Sanchez made an upgrade moving from Brighton, which finished the season sixth with Europa League action, to Chelsea, which finished twelfth. The season hasn’t started brightly despite bringing Mauricio Pochettino and splashing the cash for fun in the window.
There is optimism that some of the expensive toys in midfield could hit the ground running, especially in the defensive midfield, to provide cover for the defence and the keeper. Sanchez has already been exposed in this campaign.
Premier League Golden Glove Odds – Ramsdale & Raya
Arsenal secured the runner-up position in the Premier League last season, largely thanks to Aaron Ramsdale’s performance in goal. The English goalkeeper tallied an impressive thirteen clean sheets.
Yet, Mikel Arteta seems to be defying a cardinal rule in football: if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
Over the past three matches, Arteta has shuffled his deck, introducing David Raya as the first-choice goalkeeper, prompting a range of opinions.
The dilemma is clear: a squad can’t sustain two primary goalkeepers. Given this, it’s unlikely that Ramsdale and Raya could evenly divide the remaining thirty-three matches and still maintain enough clean sheets to rival teams that stick with a single keeper throughout the season. Both Ramsdale and Raya are exceptional talents with a legitimate shot at the Golden Glove, but the rotation could significantly hamper their individual prospects.
Ramsdale, in particular, may feel slighted by this decision. He was one of the standout goalkeepers last season, contributing to Arsenal’s third-best defensive record in the league, with only forty-three goals conceded. His ball distribution skills were also noteworthy, even adding an assist to cap off his remarkable season. Ramsdale is undoubtedly eyeing the Golden Glove award and would prefer a stable role to enhance his chances.
