With Manchester City in FA Cup action this weekend, the other title contenders, Arsenal and Liverpool, have a golden opportunity to regain some of the ground they lost last weekend due to defeats. At the other end of the table, the teams in or around the relegation zone have important games with a few potential six-pointer clashes. Join Luke Andrews as he previews five Premier League games and shares betting tips.

The stakes are high at the bottom of the Premier League table, with most teams having just six games left. At the foot of the table, Sheffield United play Burnley, one spot above them, in a match that could just about condemn them to the Championship, depending on results elsewhere.

Luton Town, which occupies the final spot in the relegation zone, will face Brentford, hoping to claim three points that would see them move up to at least one position, while Brentford would take a giant stride towards ensuring they are safe. They are currently on 32 points. The lowest-ever points tally to survive was 34, set by West Brom in 2005, and the highest for a relegated team was 42 (West Ham 2003). So, Brentford fans will not be taking anything for granted yet.

Everton welcomes Nottingham Forest with just one point difference between the two sides. The Foresters are one point off the red zone and would leapfrog their opposition with a win. Forest needs to win more, as Everton has played fewer games.

The top of the table could change this weekend as Arsenal and Liverpool are in action. The London side take on Wolves, who are almost certainly safe in 11th with 43 points. It is practically identical for Liverpool as they take on Fulham, who are in 12th place with 42 points. As both teams lost last weekend, these fixtures are an excellent opportunity for them to get back to winning ways and will attact a lot of attention from Premier League betting fans.

Premier League Betting – Luton Town vs Brentford

The relegation battle has a classic in what could determine the destiny between Luton Town, who sit one point of the red zone, and Brentford, who are six points above. The difference between the two sides is seven points, with the game between Everton and Nottingham Forest being two matches that would greatly influence the relegation tally.

The Hatters have one win in twelve games (three draws, eight defeats), casting doubt on their ability to stay in the division. However, a glimmer of hope is that the win came in their last home game against Bournemouth, beating them 2-1 with a ninetieth-minute winner scored by Carlton Morris. The win would prove to only be a temporary reprieve as they were well and truly beaten 5-1 by Manchester City in the next fixture last weekend.

Ross Barkley has nine goal involvements (five goals, four assists) and hopes to record double figures since his Everton days in 2016-17 (thirteen).

In the last meeting between the sides in December, Brentford stormed into a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Neal Maupay (49′) and Ben Mee (56′). Jacob Brown denied the home side a clean sheet with a goal in the 76′ minute from Jacob Brown. However, Shandon Baptiste made sure of the points with a goal with less than ten minutes remaining (82′). That was their sixth win in seven games against Luton (one defeat), which is a pretty commanding record to carry into this encounter.

Thomas Frank’s side has been unbeaten in the last four games (one win, three draws), which is quite a convincing turnaround after losing fourteen of the previous eighteen away games (three wins, one draw).

However, they have lost the other two away games against newly promoted sides, which is concerning as a defeat here would draw them deep into the relegation dogfight.

Vitaly Janelt could make history as the first player to make a century of appearances for Brentford.

Premier League Betting – Sheffield United vs Burnley

Another game that could have huge ramifications in the race to avoid relegation is the game between 20th and 19th, Sheffield United and Burnley. With just three wins and seven draws to their name, the Blades are on 16, ten behind Nottingham Forest in 17th and are 1/500 with the bookmakers to be relegated.

Chris Wilder’s side are winless in seven (three draws, four defeats) home games, including three defeats by five goals or more (0-8 Newcastle, 2-5 Brighton, 0-5 Aston Villa, 0-5 Brighton, 0-6 Arsenal). With such poor results, home advantage counts for little for the Sheffield club. However, the league strugglers were unbeaten in their last two games at Bramall Lane, drawing 3-3 with Fulham and an excellent 2-2 draw with Chelsea. In that game, Oliver McBurnie was the hero, scoring his sixth league goal right at the death (92′).

A saving grace for the league’s bottom side is that they won against their visitors 5-2 in the Championship last season, one of their three home wins in their head-to-head tally.

Ben Brereton Diaz scored his side’s first goal in his three goalscoring appearances. Therefore, he might be worth considering the first goalscorer market.

Burnley are four points better off their hosts but still six points from safety. The Clarets won the reverse of this fixture by an incredible 5-0 scoreline, which is the biggest Premier League win in their history.

Vincent Kompany’s side was close to a crucial win against Brighton before a glaring howler by Arijanet Muric levelled the score at 1-1. That was their fourth draw in six games (one win, one defeat), which seems like a decent return, but with their league position and with the season end drawing near, wins, not draws, are what is needed. That said, they have games against Tottenham and Manchester United coming, which means this is a critical encounter hoping to improve their tally of just one win (six draws, fourteen defeats) in twenty-one away games.

Dara O’Shea has been at the heart of the action with a goal, an assist, and a red card in his previous three appearances.

Premier League Betting – Wolves vs Arsenal

Wolverhampton Wanderers are comfortable in midtable, with no prospect of being dragged into the relegation battle and no ambition to fight for European qualification. Their manager, Gary O’Neil, rubbishes the fact that they have nothing to play for, insisting they should finish the season strongly. That would mean improving a four-game winless run (two draws, two defeats).

The West Midlanders have overachieved this season, but consistency remains a worry. Their best sequence was a three-game winning run in thirty-two games under O’Neil. The Molineux hasn’t been a fortress lately, having lost the last two games by two goals or more, but I would argue they have taken their foot off the gas, losing 2-1 against West Ham in their last home game.

One player who I think goes under the radar for sure is Matheus Cunha.

Matheus Cunha scored a brace in their 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest in their previous match to take his tally to eleven goals, his best tally in a single campaign.

Arsenal’s season is crumbling, and they must get back to winning ways to prevent a trophyless, futile campaign. They were bundled out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich midweek and beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa last weekend to lose their grip at the top of the table and are now two points behind Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta has led the Gunners to their highest away points tally, and he will hope to increase this by getting the business done at Molineux. The London outfit have scored the most away goals (thirty-seven) and conceded the fewest (eleven) than any other team in England’s top flight.

Their success on the road has seen them keep five consecutive shutouts, the joint longest run in their history. They have also won the last five head-to-head games against Wolves.

Martin Odergaard has three goals in five games against Wolves, including one in the reverse fixture.

Premier League Betting – Everton vs Nottingham Forest

Everton faces a crucial relegation clash against Nottingham Forest, with just one point separating the two sides. The Toffees have a game in hand, adding to the high stakes with only six games left and a two-point gap from the relegation zone. Luton occupy 18th, with 25 points, Forest are in 17th with 26, just a point worse off than Everton. If Luton and Forest win, Everton will plunge into the relegation places. If that isn’t scary enough, they still have Liverpool and Arsenal to play.

Confidence is a precious commodity, but it is running low. On Monday night, they suffered a 6-0 defeat against Chelsea and just one win in their last fifteen games (six draws, eight defeats). Sean Dyche was left gutted with his side, succumbing to the heaviest defeat in his five hundred and thirty-one-match managerial career.

The fans are demanding a response as they risk sleepwalking into the Championship. Their defence has been vital; in their previous ten home wins, they had kept a clean sheet and lost when conceded.

Dele Alli and Lewis Dobbin will not be available for the home team, and injuries sustained during Monday evening’s match against Chelsea will join sidelined Jarrad Branthwaite, Nathan Patterson, and Seamus Coleman. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche is optimistic that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be fit to play.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is Everton’s top scorer with six goals, while Dwight McNeil has five assists.

Nottingham Forest travel to Goodison Park on the back of a 2-2 draw against Wolves, losing just once in their last five games (one win, three draws). That’s six points from the previous five games, but their away form is their primary concern, having lost three of their last four games (one draw).

They have had the worst away tally in the league since the start of last season, winning the fewest games (three) and collecting the lowest points (eighteen). At Goodison Park, the record is equally poor, with just one win in eighteen games (two draws, five defeats), showing how arduous the task will be over the weekend.

Chris Wood has the best conversion rate for players who have ten attempts, having scored twelve goals in thirty-one shots, equating close to forty per cent (38.7%).

Premier League Betting – Fulham vs Liverpool

Fulham are sitting in 12th, eight points away from Europe qualification and seventeen clear of the relegation zone, meaning they can go into this game with title-chasing Liverpool with little to fear. That presents an unpredictable predicament for their visitors, as Fulham can be daring and take the game to Liverpool.

The Cottagers came close to taking all three points in Anfield in a game that produced seven goals. Liverpool went 3-2 ahead before conceding two quick goals to lose 4-3. That’s one of the classic games of the season, and with the stakes high for Liverpool and nerves settled for the hosts, we could be set for another high-scoring game.

Andreas Pereira is their best assist provider and was the hero over the weekend, scoring both goals.

For a season that held so much promise for so long, the last few weeks have been the stuff of nightmares for Liverpool fans.

Manchester United ruined the hopes of a quadruple, and a 3-1 aggregate defeat by Atalanta in the Europa League means Liverpool now have just the Premier League to play for. However, a 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend means it is now an uphill struggle as they sit third in the table, level on points with Arsenal and two points behind the league leader, Manchester City.

Despite their recent struggles, if Liverpool were to win the league to go with their Carabao Cup, it would be a fitting send-off for their beloved German manager. After Fulham, they play Everton, West Ham, Tottenham, Aston Villa and end their season with a home tie against Wolves.

Mohammed Salah scored the goal midweek but was subbed off when his side needed a goal that could hurt his confidence. The Egyptian has been their best outlet in front of goal, scoring seventeen goals and providing nine assists.

The weekend’s action should be a feast for football fans. Luton is desperate for points and could see Brentford as the ideal opposition, but the Hatters have an injury crisis and may struggle.

Sheffield United vs Burnley is a clash between the two bottom clubs; four points separate them, and although the bottom-placed club has home advantage, I’m predicting a Burnley win.

Everton have had an eventful season and should have the resilience to see off Nottingham Forest, but a draw wouldn’t be a surprise. The home team will, however, be pleased that Anthony Elanga is a doubt for the visitors as he played well in the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham, providing an assist.

Arsenal need to bounce back from two humiliating defeats and should unleash their anger on Wolves, who have been complacent in recent games and are only playing for pride.

Liverpool desperately needs to win against Fulham, but they should be wary of the threat that Fulham possess. Andreas Pereira is in great form for the hosts, scoring two in a man-of-the-match performance against West Ham.
