World Cup Qatar 2022: Germany v Japan betting preview. Germany, who failed to escape from their group last time, starts against Japan in Group E at the Khalifa International Stadium. Join us as we assess both teams and highlight the players to watch. We also make predictions in the popular Over / Under goals market and what we feel will be the final score. World Cup 2022 Germany v Japan

Germany has a point to prove after being knocked out in the group stage of their title defence campaign in the 2018 edition of the games. However, the four times Champions have changed their manager and style of play. The new man in charge, Hans-Dieter Flick, is blending experience and younger energy looking stronger and among the favourites.

Japan’s best performance in the competition has been the ’round of sixteen’, which they have reached three times, including in the 2018 edition. Group E has been dubbed the group of death, featuring 2014 winners Germany, 2010 winners Spain, and 2014 quarter-finalists Costa Rica.

Germany v Japan Betting Betting Odds and Markets

The most popular markets are the full-time result or the over/under. See the latest odds on offer in the tables below.

Match Result Betting
Germany Win Draw Japan Win
4/9 10/3 13/2

As you can see above, bookmakers feel it will be a winning start for the Germans, and 888sport are offering 4/9 for Germany, 13/2 for Japan, and the draw is available at 10/3.

Germany (4/9) will be ruthless after failing to qualify out of the group stage in the previous edition. Thus, we expect them to start very strongly against Japan, who will hope to match their neighbour’s South Korea performance against their opponents, who beat Germany 2 – 0 in the last group stage game of the 2018 edition. Therefore, a draw is improbable with the odds of 10/3.

Germany has endured a demanding UEFA Nations League schedule where they were also placed in the group of death alongside England, Italy, and Hungary. However, they avoided relegation, winning just one; Italy (5 – 2), drawing four; England (3 – 3) (1 – 1), Italy (1 – 1), Hungary (1 – 1), and losing one; Hungary (1 – 0).

Japan is unbeaten in the last five games, winning three; the USA (2 – 0), South Korea (3 – 0), Hong Kong (6 – 0) and drawing two; Ecuador (0 – 0) and China (0 – 0).

Over/Under Market

Match Result Betting
Over 2.5 Goals Under 2.5 Goals
4/6 6/5

A close call in the over/under-betting market, but the odds favour a high-scoring encounter. For Germany, only two of their last six have seen more than 2.5 goals (3 – 3 against England) and (5 – 2 against Italy).

Japan has had two over 2.5 in their last five against Korea (3 – 0) and Hong Kong (6 – 0).

Player(s) to watch – Germany

Leroy Sane – The former Manchester City striker has matured in his game to become a more clinical finisher and experienced in handling in-game situations. The maestro was left out from the 2018 edition by Joachim Low and was the first name on the list by Hans-Dieter Flick. However, he didn’t register a goal involvement in the UEFA Nations League and Euro 2020. Once regarded as one of the best players in the world, he will have a point to prove in this edition.

Player(s) to watch – Japan

Daichi Kamada was an instrumental figure in Eintracht Frankfurt Europa League winning campaign last season, where he had six goal involvements (five goals and one assist). He has already scored three goals in six European games. In the league, he has been in fine form with eleven goal involvements (seven goals and four assists) in thirteen appearances. Although he has made only twenty-one caps for his nation, with this being his first international competition, he is expected to flourish, especially in this game, having played in Germany since 2017.

Match Prediction: Germany 3 – 1

Germany’s attack and midfield are ruthless and well-coordinated. We will see a Bayern Munich system and line-up, especially in the attack. The defence, however, is newly fractured with an ageing Emmanuel Neuer between the posts and could have a shaky start against an unpredictable Japan attack.  Who should start for Germany? Use our world cup squad builder to pick your perfect 11. We predict they will concede at least one, and their attack can produce three or more goals.
