World Cup 2022: France v Australia Betting Preview
World Cup Qatar 2022: France Vs Australia betting preview. The champions start their title defence against Australia at the Al Wakrah Sports Club Stadium. Join us as we assess both teams and highlight the players to watch. We also make predictions in the popular Over / Under goals market and what we feel will be the final score.
The 2018 World Cub champions start their title defence against Australia in the 2022 Qatar edition of the games. France will be hoping to win their third World Cup title and second consecutive under Didier Deschamps, who captained the team winning the 1998 edition.
Australia head into the fifth straight competition with the euphoria of a dramatic qualification. The Socceroos are in a tough group with Denmark and France; seemingly, the favourites will try to make a performance to upset the Goliaths.
The thirty-eighth-ranked team is battling injuries and the fatigue of a busy qualification face to try to match or outdo their 2006 performance, where they reached the round of 16. The World Cup has had a recurring dark cloud on teams defending their title, so it would be interesting to see how France performs.

---|---|---|
France Win | Draw | Australia Win |
2/9 | 5/1 | 10/1 |
France won the previous edition and thus would be the favourites to win all their games in their title defence and bet365 have them heavy 2/9 favourites to get off to a winning start. Australia (10/1) needs their best team if they want to get a result against one of the favourites to win the title. A stalemate is priced at 5/1.
France has had an un-champion-like last six games winning just one against Austria (1 – 0), drawing two to Croatia (1 – 1), Austria (1 – 1), and losing three to Denmark (2 – 0) (2 – 1), Croatia (1 – 0). A run that saw them finish third in their UEFA Nations League surviving relegation by just one point.
Australia is in great form, winning their last five games; Jordan (2 – 1), United Arab Emirates (2 – 1), Peru (1 – 0), New Zealand (1 – 0), (2 – 0).
Over/Under Market
Match Result Betting | |
---|---|
Over 2.5 Goals | Under 2.5 Goals |
4/6 | 6/5 |
Australia’s form is better on paper than France’s; thus, there is a good chance they can break the Champion’s defence. However, France’s attack threat is lethal, thus making Both teams score a very likely market, with the Over 2.5 having 4/6 odds and the under on 6/5.
Player(s) to watch – France
Mbappe – The PSG star has been on fine form, failing to record a goal involvement in just one of his last eight games, documenting thirteen involvements in this period (eight goals, five assists). He was their key player in their title-winning 2018 edition, scoring four goals, including one in the 4 – 2 victory over Croatia in the finals. The maestro was named the Young Player of the Tournament and has developed significantly over the four years and will be bringing a mature and more dangerous side to his game.

Player(s) to watch – Australia
Mathew Leckie recently returned to Melbourne City after spending a decade in Germany. The 31-year-old will most likely play in the wings with pace to burn and has had a slow start to life back home, managing just one goal and one assist in six games. However, the maestro could be deployed for his speed to lead the counter-attack against a strong side that will have the majority of possession, and Leckie could help carry the ball forward faster.

Match Prediction: France 3 – 1
France will miss some key players from their successful 2018 quest, but we expect them to take all three points. Australia’s fine form could keep them alive in their attack, so we predict they can get at least a goal against the newly crafted France backline. The Over 2.5 and Both teams to score market could yield, and we anticipate a 3 – 1 win in favour of the defending Champions. We think France are one of the favourites to win the tournament this year, with some world class players in every position.
