Premier League Matchday 29 (1)

The match week has some incredible games that could impact the relegation struggle at the bottom of the table. Burnley welcomes Brentford, but despite the point advantage for the Bees, this match is still a relegation battle.

Luton welcomes Nottingham Forest, an exciting tie as the two sides are separated by just three points, with a win for the hosts by two goals or more would mean they exchange places.

Tottenham, who have been in impressive form, will travel to Craven Cottage knowing a win will send them to the top four, at least temporarily, with Aston Villa and West Ham set to play on Sunday.

Villa has a loose grip on the Champions League slot while the Hammers are leading the race for finishing seventh, but a hungry pack of four teams separated by just four points follow closely.

Premier League Betting – Burnley vs Brentford

Burnley had a two-goal lead in their weekend encounter against West Ham but was sloppy in the second half in drawing 2-2 and was lucky to steal a point from the match. Vincent Kompany’s side has lost twenty points from winning position, which raises their prospects of slipping back to the Championship.

The Clarets are tied on fourteen points alongside Sheffield United and ten points from seventeenth-placed Nottingham Forest. Heading back to Turf Moor wouldn’t be optimistic for Kompany’s side, who have lost a league-high eleven home games, winning just once (two draws) all season. The best positive heading to the match is their head-to-head record against Brentford, as they won (3-1) the last match against them here despite losing the previous two games against them (both away).

A defeat would condemn them to three consecutive defeats against the Bees, but most importantly, keep deeming their hope for redemption to secure another top-flight season.

David Datro Fofana scored a screamer in the fifteenth minute to raise the morale and would be one to watch with his quality in long shots providing an auxiliary source of goals.

Brentford got a reality check of how far they have drifted from their best after challenging competitively for a 2-2 draw against Chelsea; they failed to rescue a point, conceding late to lose 2-1 against Arsenal. Like their hosts, the travelling side is desperate for redemption; their poor form of five winless games (one draw, four defeats) sees them drag five points from the relegation zone.

Thomas Frank would be particularly concerned about his side’s form on the road, where they had eight defeats in the previous nine games (one win). They boast a good record against their host and will be eyeing a first double against them for the first time since the 1934-35 campaign.

It is an unwanted record for the travelling side that has conceded the most headed goals this season (seventeen).

Saman Ghoddos came off the bench to score twice against Brentford in the last three games. He should be a starter with his excellent form against the hosts.

Premier League Betting – Luton vs Nottingham Forest

Luton Town threw away a 3-0 advantage against Bournemouth, conceding four goals in the second half to lose 4-3. It was pretty expensive, and what could have been a decisive blunder was losing that match, which could have seen them move out of the relegation zone if the scores had remained the same as at halftime.

Manager Rob Edwards has to revitalise his side to be more resilient and consistent in ending their seven-game winless run (two draws, five defeats). We are in the season’s final quarter, which is not the best time for the Hatters to lose form, but we are boasting the second-best attack for teams in the bottom half. Only Chelsea (forty-five) scored more goals than their forty-one-goal tally.

Captain Carlton Morris has been leading from the front, scoring in his last three home games.

Nottingham Forest fans must have been wearing Bournemouth jerseys in the Wednesday clash, as they were the side that would have moved to the red zone if the scores hadn’t changed in the second half. Three points still separate the two sides, and the Foresters enjoy a better goal difference.

However, things could worsen if they are punished for their ongoing case of breaching spending rules that could warrant a point deduction, which would significantly affect their relegation quest. Not in their best form, Nottingham Forest have lost six of their last eight games (one win, one draw), including their last three games.

On the road, they haven’t been particularly significant, winning twice in their previous twenty-four games (sixteen defeats, six draws), including a 1-0 defeat in their last encounter here.

Wood scored twice in the reverse fixture, has recently returned from injury, and will be eyeing a landmark 150th Premier League goal.

Premier League Betting – Fulham vs Tottenham

Fulham have downed Tottenham already this season, knocking them out of the EFL Cup on penalties, but the last time they recorded a home win dated back to the 2009-10 season. The Cottagers saw their two-match winning streak beating Manchester United (2-1) and Brighton (3-0) but crashed in their recent game, losing 2-1 at the Molineux.

The defeat crippled their European dream and an opportunity to win three successive home games. The Craven Cottage has been their fortress, where eight of their ten league wins this season have been recorded.

Marco Silva’s men must work on their consistency to marshal an excellent run to stay on course with eyes on Rodrigo Muniz, who has scored in his side’s last three home games.

Tottenham Hotspurs are in their best form of the season, setting them up within just two points from fourth-placed Aston Villa. Furthermore, the London side has a game in hand, which means they can go above their European challengers if they win their extra kicker.

Spurs have been great on the attack this campaign, with just one of their eighteen games failing to produce over 2.5 goals, while ten of the thirteen exceeded three goals. Ange Postecoglou would not like to be the manager that taints an impressive record of seven consecutive wins for Spurs at the Craven Cottage. The London side thumped their challengers for the Champions League final slot, Aston Villa, 4-0 to break even and would be motivated heading to this encounter.

There have been eleven consecutive scoring games against the Cottagers, and one more would set a record with their current form, proving that it was a possibility.

Brennan Johnson is beginning to love life in the capital and has three goal involvements (two assists, one goal) in the last two games.

Premier League Betting – West Ham vs Aston Villa

The Hammers came from an impressive midweek assignment and overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat the German side Freiburg 5-0 at home to qualify for the quarter-finals. In the league, West Ham has to battle well to retain their European status as they sit seventh with just four teams, including eleventh-placed Chelsea, within a four-point reach.

David Moyes has transformed the London side into a robust and formidable side that qualified for the Europa League last season. With his best players back, such as Paqueta, they could marshal a charge for their qualification. They, however, have work to do in their defence as they have conceded the highest number of goals (forty-nine) for teams in the top half of the table.

They came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Burnley in their last match. Paqueta scored in two consecutive games, seemingly finding his touch after being side-lined with injury.

Aston Villa has its eyes on the Champions League, sitting in position four but surrounded by aggressive sides such as Tottenham and Manchester United, highlighting an elongated battle to qualify for Europe’s prime competition.

They lost 4-0 against Spurs over the weekend, reduced the gap between the two sides to just two points and now have to be perfect to maintain their advantage. The defeat ended a three-game winning run, and they would be full of confidence heading to the match, having secured a quarter-final slot in the Europa Conference League after a 4-0 humbling of Ajax.

Unai Emery is a European specialist and seems to have clear intentions to transform the Premier League outfit to challenge the top tournaments. His blueprint appears to be working.

They must maintain the same momentum in the next few games, counting on Ollie Watkins, who has twenty-six goal involvements (sixteen goals, ten assists).

Tottenham has been scoring for fun and thus should easily win against Fulham, who have been out of form recently. Burnley have lost their confidence, while Brentford had two battles against the top six, meaning they have sharpened their artillery well enough to take all three points.

Luton will have to give their best fight against Nottingham Forest, as the match will decide who will finish the weekend in the red zone. Aston Villa and West Ham have European aspirations, and whoever wins has an advantage in their quest.
