After a week of European football, the Premier League returns this weekend with match week twenty-five and important games at both ends of the table. Our resident sports expert, Luke Andrews, analyses five games that could prove decisive in the title chase and relegation battles. With so much at stake, it promises to be another thrilling weekend of action.

The plot at the top of the table went according to plan last weekend, with all three title chasers winning their games. The current league leaders, Liverpool, will hope to maintain their slender lead at the top, and they are the first team in action, taking on an out-of-form Brentford in Saturday’s early kick-off while Arsenal travel to Burnley in one of the five 3 pm fixtures.

The big one that should be a classic will be Manchester City playing at home against Chelsea. There are still fourteen games to play, but the tension between the three teams at the top leaves no room for error and makes the title race exciting.

West Ham faces Nottingham Forest, hoping to forget the weekend, while our final featured game is the counterattacking battle between Wolves and Tottenham.

Premier League Betting – Brentford vs Liverpool

Brentford, who were on course for European qualification, can now be found just six points ahead of the relegation zone. The Bees won their last game against Wolves, which was just their second win in eleven games in all competitions and just their first clean sheet since October (fourteen home games).

Thomas Frank now has to figure out a way to engineer a win against the top six, as their previous two defeats came against such sides as Manchester City and Tottenham. Furthermore, they have the worst record in Europe’s top five leagues, as they have lost the highest number of games despite scoring the opening goal, which must be a worry.

Brentford’s hopes of pulling off a shock win against the league leaders are hampered by injuries. Rico Henry, Bryan Mbeumo, Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade and Josh Dasilva will all miss this vital clash.

Ivan Toney has been in fine form since returning from suspension, scoring three goals in the four games he has featured.

Liverpool have been incredible in the goal-scoring department, failing to hit the back of the net twice in forty-seven games in all competitions. The Reds did win this fixture 3-0 in November in Anfield but have not won at the Brentford Community Stadium since their return to top-flight, drawing (3-3) in the 2021-22 season and losing (3-1) in the 2022-23 season.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side has struggled defensively as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in six games, further tainted by a 3-1 win against title rival Arsenal.

Diogo Jota has made his side invincible when he scores in forty-five encounters (thirty-eight wins, seven draws) and is currently on a run of three goals in four games.

The Merseyside club must secure maximum points to maintain competitiveness in the increasingly intense title race. Although they were previously in firm control, Manchester City and Arsenal are now closing in on the race, posing a threat to their position.

Premier League Betting – Burnley vs Arsenal

Burnley’s struggles have been well documented this season, with relegation a real possibility for the side tied with Sheffield United at the bottom of the table, seven points away from safety. They fought well against title challenger Liverpool, scoring first, but lost 3-1. The defeat comes on the back of a 2-2 draw, where they came from two goals down to secure a point against Fulham. Vincent Kompany has been banned, which makes the task even harder.

The Clarets have more winless games against Chelsea (nine) than against Arsenal (eight), losing five and drawing three. They have their worst-ever top-flight home record, recording just one win in twelve games (two draws, nine defeats) and conceding at least twice in nine games. In nine out of their last ten home matches against Arsenal across all competitions, fewer than 2.5 goals have been scored.

Wilson Odobert has his three goals, and being the opener will be the one to inspire his side in the attack.

Arsenal demolished West Ham 6-0 on Sunday in a fantastic display of dominance and exciting attacking football. Mikel Arteta will hope his side saved some goals for the upcoming week, but going against the team with the most goals conceded at home, the title chasers should do alright. The Gunners have a good record against the bottom dwellers, winning all ten games against teams starting the game week in position thirteen or lower. Confidence and intent have been oozing from the London side, especially after the win against Liverpool that pushed them back in the title race.

They must be perfect as Liverpool and Manchester City are looking ahead to the big game against the defending Champions and have to win such encounters to keep pace.

Bukayo Saka became the youngest player to score fifty goals with a brace against West Ham over the weekend.

Premier League Betting – Manchester City vs Chelsea

Manchester City is facing a fierce challenge in their title defence with Arsenal and Liverpool breathing on their necks; thus, they can’t afford to slip up even when they face their fierce rivals Chelsea at the Etihad.

The Citizens are in their element, marshalling their trademark red-hot form in the second half of the season that propels them to the title.

The midweek 3-1 win against FC Copenhagen made it eleven consecutive victories, their best run since they won twenty-one games in the 2020-21 campaign.

They have a history with their old foes, but with their current form and greater ambition than their visitors, adding another win at home feels a more likely outcome.

Pep Guardiola’s side has not lost at home in twenty-two (eighteen wins, four draws) home league games, a record only eclipsed by Liverpool (twenty-four).

Kevin De Bruyne has provided an assist in all four Manchester City games he has featured this year, returning from injury in time to engineer their title run.

Chelsea have been lukewarm this campaign, but their last six games (three wins, one draw, two defeats) present their best run of form of the season. They are on a two-game winning run, both coming away from home beating Aston Villa in the FA Cup and coming from a goal down to win 3-1 against Crystal Palace.

The Blues have failed to win against Manchester City in seven games (six defeats, one draw) since they beat them in the cup final.

They could not score in the six defeats, but in their most recent game against City under Mauricio Pochettino, they produced a Premier League classic with a 4-4 scoreline.

The former Spurs and PSG manager has won four (drawn six, lost thirteen) against the Spaniard, while Cole Palmer hopes to score home and away against his former side.

Premier League Betting – Nottingham vs West Ham

Nottingham Forest and West Ham are two sides desperate for redemption. Forest finished the game week just two points above the relegation zone, and with a potential point deduction, things could be more challenging for them.

They have failed to record a win in eight games (five draws, three defeats) and need to turn that form around, primarily because of their proximity to the red zone.

Nuno Espirito Santo has work to do on his defence as they have conceded the highest number of goals from set-pieces (fifteen), including two in their 3-2 defeat against Newcastle last weekend.

A further worrying tally is their eleven clean sheets in sixty-two league games since the beginning of last season, which stands a record for the worst tally in as many games.

The bright side is their attack has been promising, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring in their last match and forming an exciting trio alongside Taiwo Awoniyi and Antony Elanga.

The mood in the London Stadium was gloomy as they witnessed their side being butchered 6-0 by Arsenal on Sunday. The defeat extended their winless run to seven games (four draws, three defeats) with other humiliating defeats over the last two months: 5-0 against Fulham and 5-1 against Liverpool.

David Moyes has a chance to redeem himself with the next four games (including this one) coming against teams in the bottom half of the table, an excellent opportunity to gain some ground. They have been missing their playmaker, Lucas Paqueta, and if they don’t score this weekend, it could be a third straight game without finding the back of the net.

James Ward-Prowse provided a brace of assists in the reverse fixture that saw them win 3-2 but has to find a connection with new signing Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the pack to control games.

Premier League Betting – Tottenham v Wolves

Tottenham has managed to maintain its grip on the top four, hoping to qualify for Europe after missing out on the Champions League. They have been impressive at home on a five-game winning run and will be hoping they can continue the streak.

In their latest home game, they staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a one-goal deficit to secure a 2-1 victory against Brighton. Ange Postecoglou has done an exceptional job in fostering a resilient mindset within the team, as evidenced by their impressive tally of sixteen points earned from losing positions.

They welcome Wolves in what would be the second of three consecutive home games and a chance to cover ground to the three-title chasing park above them.

Heung-Min Son has recorded a goal or an assist in eleven of the previous eighteen games, providing the last ninety-sixth-minute assist in their win against Brighton.

Wolves have found joy playing against Tottenham, winning the last two head-to-head encounters. They are the only Midland side and team from the bottom half of the table to have beaten Tottenham this campaign, collecting ten points from the previous six trips (three wins, one draw, two defeats) to the London side.

Gary O’Neil is short in attack with injured Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan, who have eight goals in their last eleven away games. They will hope their firepower is back on time, but without the two, Pedro Neto, who has scored or assisted in three of the last four games, is available to marshal the counterattack.

Despite the concerning injuries, Liverpool is expected to fare well against Brentford, leveraging their offensive capabilities to clinch all three points. Arsenal, coming off a high-scoring game against West Ham, faces a Burnley team battling relegation fears.

Given Arsenal’s excellent form, they should find this match relatively straightforward. West Ham and Nottingham Forest, both in dire need of points and facing their own struggles, are likely to see their managers adopt a meticulous strategy, making a draw a probable outcome.

The intense rivalry between Manchester City and Chelsea gets another chapter following a thrilling 4-4 draw in their last encounter. The defending champions, Manchester City, cannot afford to lose points, yet they’re up against a Chelsea team that often elevates their game for these clashes. We predict that Pep Guardiola’s team might face challenges and potentially settle for a draw in this tough matchup.
