2022 Greyhound Derby Betting Is Headed by Ballinabola Ed

The third round of the 2022 Greyhound Derby takes place this Saturday at Towcester Racecourse. Featuring all 48 greyhounds that remain in the £175,000 to-the-winner competition – racing in eight heats – the meeting is considered one of the most exciting days in the greyhound racing calendar.

Ballinabola Ed and Lautaro were favorites to land the Star Sports and TRC English sponsored competition heading into the second round. The pair maintain their position at the head of the betting as the next round approaches.

But, with Ballinabola Ed breaking the 29-second barrier for a second time when winning his second-round assignment last weekend, the Irish-trained dog is now just 7/2 to take the valuable competition.

Kildare Is a Rapid Mover

Lautaro, trained locally by Patrick Janssens, encountered trouble in-running in his second-round heat and was beaten into second place. He remains an 8/1 shot with the greyhound betting sites.

The biggest betting mover in recent days has been the 23-month-old, Kildare. Named after an Irish county and trained in the Emerald Isle by Peter Cronin, the lightly-raced puppy stopped the clock at a rapid 29.11-seconds when accounting for defending Derby champion Thorn Falcon a week ago.

50/1 when the betting opened, best greyhound betting sites now quote Kildare at just 10/1. He sits third on the betting lists. They currently feature 48 names and see some of the biggest outsiders available at odds of 250/1.

Falcon to Fly High, Wide and Handsome

Thorn Falcon follows in the betting at 12/1. The 2021 Derby winner may have tasted defeat in both rounds of the 2022 competition but, as one of just five wide-running greyhounds remaining in the competition, he is assured of good trap draws in every future round.

Given his running style, it is easy to envisage Thorn Falcon claiming three more qualifying spots to make the Derby final again. Another greyhound with the ability to keep qualifying is Singalong Sally.

Trained by Pat Buckley in Ireland, Singalong Sally has that rare talent of being capable of winning from off the front or from behind. She has used that ability to reach the final of several major competitions in her native country.

In September 2021, Singalong Sally finished an excellent second in the Irish Greyhound Derby final. With that type of form in her book, the BetVictor online sportsbook offering of 20/1 makes plenty of appeal. The firm’s current each-way terms are place-paying positions 1-2-3-4 with a quarter of the odds for the place part of the bet.
