Floorball Betting Odds

We all like to think we are getting good value for money and the odds that a bookmaker offers tells us how competitive they are. The better odds a company offers, the higher your returns on a win. If two companies offer similar products, and both offer the same level of customer care, then the odds a company offers can be different. In this section, we work out what is the return to player figure (RTP) offered by the best floorball betting sites.

Over time, we collated data on four floorball tournaments – much like we did with sites for betting on football, recording the odds offered at bet365. Ladbrokes, Grosvenor, 888sport and Coral. For each competition, we selected twenty random matches and worked out the pay-out rate for each bookmaker. You can see our results below;

Average Odds for Floorball Tournaments
Floorball Betting Site Czech Open Champions Cup EuroFloorball Cup Canada Cup
97.55% 97.32% 96.85% 97.13%
97.32% 96.22% 95.42% 96.01%
95.99% 94.35% 96.48% 95.89%
96.32% 95.13% 96.96% 95.92%
95.84% 94.82% 95.03% 96.85%

Highlights from the research are that there is not much in terms of variance between the bookmakers; this tells us that all the bookmakers have a decent return to player figures. bet365 offered consistently good odds with a profit line of just 2.45%, 2.68%, 1.15% and 2.87% on the four tournaments we had data for. The Champions Cup event saw the lowest RTP figures with two operators offering below 95%; this was Grosvenor and Coral.

Odds are only one indicator though, and our comprehensive reviews examine the good, the bad, and the ugly. You can compare betting sites on our homepage.

What Tournaments do the Bookmakers Offer?

The global popularity of floorball means there are many tournaments you can bet on, in this section, we take a look at some of the main competitions;

Czech Open – This is the world’s largest club team tournament. Held in the capital Prague, the Czech Open attracts the top teams around the world. Featuring over 270 teams, the current reigning champions of the annual event are the Swedish club side IBF Falun. The Czech Open is a popular market for floorball online betting. It’s worth noting that the Czech Open has a Facebook page which shows free highlights of the tournament that is held in August.

Champions Cup – Only open to the top 4 ranked club teams, the Euro Cup winner and one wildcard, the Champions Cup is the premier tournament.

The EuroFloorball Cup (EFC) is a route for one of the lower-ranked teams to join the elite in the Champions Cup. The idea is almost the same as what happened in European football, the winner of the Europa League qualifies for the Champions League the next year.

Other notable events include the Canada Cup (the largest club tournament outside of Europe with over 55 teams) and the USA Cup which like the Canada Cup is part of the NAFC series.

In the UK, the sport is run by the United Kingdom Floorball Federation, and they run three leagues, the South league, the Midlands league and the Scottish league. The season runs from October to March and teams compete in tournaments, which take place on Sundays.

Common Betting Markets for the Sport

As floorball is very similar to hockey and ice hockey, the betting opportunities are the same as those sports and other team sports. There is a wide range of bets covering both team’s and individual player’s performances. It’s worth noting that the markets offered will often depend on the prestige of the tournament.

For example, you are likely to see many more things to bet on in a Champions Cup clash than a UKFF South League Division One game. Let’s take a look at some of the common betting markets for floorball;

Floorball Team to Win

Floorball team standing togetherThe most popular bet in floorball betting, you are just deciding which team will win. There is only going to be one of three outcomes; the home team wins, the away team wins, or the game ends in deadlock.

For example, Newbold College is playing London Great White Sharks. I can bet on Newbold, the Sharks or the draw. Some bookmakers offer a double chance bet which groups the draw with a team — for example, Newbold and the draw. The odds are significantly reduced, but as long as the other side doesn’t win, you’ll see a return.

Over / Under

A floorball scoreboardA firm favourite, no matter what sport it is used on. The Over / Under bet is as simple as it sounds, the bookmaker will set a total points number, and you can bet if the final score will be over or under that number.

For example, when The Czech Republic took on Finland in the 3-Nations the bookmaker offered an over/under figure of 9.5. As the game can never finish with that scoreline, it means the total amount of points will either be over or under that figure. In that game, the Czech’s won 6-5, so an over bet would have won and the under bet would have lost.

Even or Odds Betting

A floorball stick with and odds symbol next to itIf you prefer not to overthink your betting and leave it to chance, then the even / odd market is a fun bet. In this bet, all you need to do is predict if the points total in the game will be evens (1,3,5,7 etc…) or odds (2,4,6,8 etc..). It’s the sports betting equivalent of betting on black or red on roulette. No skill, just fun!

Floorball Live Betting

How many times have you watched a live betting sporting event and noticed almost instantly that things are not going to plan? The team don’t seem to be gelling, the star player seems off the pace, and the body language doesn’t seem right. If you have already placed your bets, you start to get a sinking feeling!

The good news is that there is now another way. Live betting, which is available at all our featured bookmakers, allows you to place bets while the action is on. This gives you the ability to react to what is happening in the game, therefore maximising your chances of a return from your bets.

Another new feature you now have at the best floorball betting sites is the ability to cash out while the match is still being played. The bookmaker will offer you a value to end your bet early; this could be higher or lower than your original bet.

For example, Rhinos are playing Norwich Floorball Club in the UKFF Midlands league. The Rhinos are red-hot favourites (for a good reason, they ended the season unbeaten). It is, however, Norwich who start the game more brightly and the Rhinos seem to be struggling. At this point, I place a £10 bet on Norwich winning at 5/1.

Shortly afterwards Norwich takes an early lead. I check my bet and the bookmaker is offering a cash-out figure of £10.67. This figure increases to £11.67 when Norwich double their lead. Fearing a Rhinos fight-back we cash in for a quick £1.67 profit, if we had waited, the Rhinos went on to win that game so the bet would have been lost.

Bookmaker Bonuses for Floorball

In the last section, we showed how it is possible to use the cash-out facility offered by the bookies to take advantage of a situation to win. As competition is intense in the online sports betting arena, bookies are offering generous opportunities to try them out.

As these welcome bonuses are often in the form of free bets, you can treat it as a test of the bookie. So, if you are planning on betting on floorball, why not use the bookmaker’s money rather than just yours?

Ladbrokes deserve a special mention for having the lowest requirements on their welcome bonus of all our featured bookmakers. Just £5 is enough to release £20 of free bets. The terms and conditions are simple to understand too, place at least a £5 bet at odds of at least 1/2 within 14 days of opening your account. Ladbrokes will then credit your account with 4 x £5 free bets, and these must be used within seven days of being awarded.

Floorball Betting Strategy

If you are planning on having a punt regularly, having a sound strategy is vital. And perhaps the easiest but most effective way you can enhance your chance of success is by knowing the sport you are betting on. It may seem like common sense, but spotting trends can often pay dividends.

Does a team start fast but tends to fade? If this is the case, then it is worth backing that team in the ‘race to x’ betting market. Or knowing that the other team is likely to fight back, cashing-out your bet could also be a prudent move. Check out some floorball betting tips that you should always use!

Become an expert! The sport is not as popular or under as much scrutiny as other mainstream sports. This could potentially help you identify an edge if you know more about the sport and teams than the bookmaker. The good news is that this is easy to do, as most, if not all games are streamed online, free of charge. The World University Floorball Championships, for example, is broadcast live on the IFF Channel on YouTube. WUC is also shown on FISU´s Facebook and YouTube.

Another aspect of your strategy should be the types of bets you place. So far, we have concentrated on Single bets. A good way to increase the amount you can win is by combining bets to create multiples. You can read more about these bet types and many more by visiting our betting calculator page.

Interesting Facts and Stats

So now you know how to bet on floorball, our guide should have also given you some ideas on what you’d like to bet on. In this next section, we are going to have a brief look at the history of the sport; it’s probably not as old as you would think! We also find out who was the first club and who have been the best teams in the international tournaments.

Floorball History

A historic floorball gameThe Swedes are credited with inventing the game and the first club, Sala IBK, was established in 1979. The official rules were established in 1981 and the association, the IFF, was founded in 1986.

The sport has seen a significant surge in popularity. Four years after the IFF was founded, it was played in 7 countries. Four years after that the number had doubled to 14 which included an expansion into the United States. Today it is played in over 80 countries.

Floorball Olympics

The Olympic signFloorball’s popularity is likely to experience a global boost if the sport is chosen to become a part of the 2020 Summer Olympics. The IFF hopes that Tokyo 2020 will be the stage that floorball makes its Olympic debut.

This is looking likely as in 2008, the IFF and the sport received recognition from the International Olympic Committee. Three years later the IOC made the IFF a member of the Recognised International Sports Federations, this is usually the last stage before a sport gains Olympic accreditation.

Nordic Floorball Dominance

A floorball player's legsCurrently the IFF contains 58 members but it is the founding members of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland where the sport has the most significant fanbase. It is also these mainly Nordic countries that have seen the most success, in the first eight years of professional competition only five countries had managed to win a World Championship event (The Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland).

The UK teams came 25th and 31st in the men’s WFC 2018 and women’s WFC 2017, respectively.

While the UK has failed to make much of a statement on the international stage so far, this could soon change if club side Rhinos could repeat their domestic dominance abroad. In the 2017 – 2018 season, the Rhinos completed a 14-game season without losing a game. The invincible Rhinos only blip was a draw as they stormed to 40 points, scoring 112 and conceding just 23.

Floorball Betting for UK Punters

Depending on the time of year, you may struggle even to see floorball mentioned at online betting sites. The league season runs from October to March, and rather uniquely, the international fixtures are scheduled in that window, so this means a six-month gap in tournaments.

Betting on floorball was a straightforward process at all our featured bookmakers. They offered the best odds consistently, including the runners-up crowns, the pocket-friendly bonuses and plenty of other benefits. Each of these bookies is worth a look if you are not currently a customer.
