World Cup 2022: Netherlands v Argentina Betting Preview & Odds
The second Quarter Final on Friday is between the Netherlands and Argentina. Both teams know each other well, having met in two World Cups in recent years. Confidence is high in both camps, but there can only be one winner at this stage of the competition. Join us as we preview this interesting clash.
A 2014 semi-final rematch will have the fans hoping for a better goal-scoring encounter, with the sides producing goalless games in the 2006 and 2014 editions. Louis Van Gaal has not been shy of making his sentiments known and bragged that his side has a significant chance of winning their first-ever World Cup trophy. The seventy-year-old veteran manager was in charge when his side lost to penalties and will be out seeking revenge.
Lionel Scaloni has been flexible and brave to change tactics, making them stand out and able to pull through challenging game scenarios. We expect them to have a strong start as they have led at halftime in eleven of the previous thirteen fixtures this year (winning eleven, drawing one, losing one).
The last two World Cup winners (Germany and France) were runners-up twelve years prior. The Netherlands finished second in 2010; this could be their year, and they will be motivated by the knowledge that they have kept a clean sheet in their last three home matches against Argentina. This game may be on foreign soil, but they have what it takes to frustrate Argentina.
In readiness, we highlight the players to watch and the bets to consider.

---|---|---|
Netherlands Win | Draw | Argentina Win |
13/5 | 21/10 | 6/5 |
The Netherlands are the underdog in this clash, bet365 has them at 13/5 to beat Argentina (6/5). The draw is priced at 21/10, indicating that operators believe it could be a close clash.
Argentina won the last three games at the World Cup against Australia (2 – 1), Poland (2 – 0), and Mexico (2 – 0). Before these games, however, they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia, which made qualification more difficult than it should have been.
The Netherlands are unbeaten in the edition, winning three; USA (3 – 1), Qatar (2 – 0), and Senegal (2 – 0) with one draw (Ecuador 1 – 1). Furthermore, the Netherlands are unbeaten in their last 18 matches in the World Cup. That fact alone means you shouldn’t underestimate the Dutch in this fixture.
Player(s) to watch – Netherlands
Nathan Ake has been a good omen for the Netherlands as he has not tasted defeat in an international match for more than two years (eleven wins, six draws). However, he could be tasked to mark his teammate Julian Alvarez. The opposition also has Lionel Messi, which means this will be a busy day for the defence.

Player(s) to watch – Argentina
Alvarez scored in the last six appearances where he featured for at least forty minutes for the club and country. He seems to be Messi’s best partner in the attack and creates space for the PSG attacker to make runs.

Match Prediction: Netherlands 1 – 1 Argentina
We think Van Gaal will have his revenge against the South Americans, who are one of the favourites to win the tournament as a whole. Argentina seems to crack under pressure, and we predict they will not find life easy against the Netherlands.
