If you want to know more about World Cup betting, you’re in the right place!

World Cup Betting Guide – Betting Types

If you are a novice bettor, the sheer choice of bets you can place at £10 betting sites and other sportsbooks in the UK can seem daunting. However, as with most things in life, the more knowledge you have on a subject, the more likely you are to succeed.

Research is critical, and the people who are successful while betting often know the value of bets based on trends. Of course, it’s football, and shocks can and will happen, but it’s possible to minimise risk and enhance your chances of seeing a return.

World Cup Betting Guide – Single Bets

A straightforward “single” bet is the type of bet that most of us place when we start football betting, and it is the easiest bet to understand. You are predicting what will happen between team A and team B. There are three options in a standard bet, a home win, a draw or an away win.

For example, Nottingham Forest 10/1, Draw 5/1, or Liverpool win 1/4.

How much you will see as a return is easy to calculate. At 10/1, for every one you bet, you will receive 10. So a successful bet of £10 will pay out £100, and you receive your stake back, meaning a total return of £110. So £10 on the draw would see £60 returned (£10 x 5 + stake), and an away win would return £12.50 (£10 x 1/4 = £2.50 + £10 stake returned).

World Cup Betting Guide – Accumulator Bets

Accumulator bets are incredibly popular with football betting fans as you can win big, but they are notoriously hard to win due to surprising results in games. Unlike a single bet, in an accumulator, you combine bets and any winnings transfer to the stake on the next bet.

If we take our Premier League betting tips as an example, we fancy Chelsea and Manchester United v Chelsea to be a draw. We also predict Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal to win and the game between Tottenham and Arsenal to be a draw.

If we had £10 to spend and placed 5 x £2 bets on all of these results, our total winnings would be £24.84 (£2 x 5/2 = £7 + £2 x 1/4 = £2.5 + £2 x 8/5 = £5.20 + £2 x 4/7 = £3.14 + £2 x 5/2 = £7).

However, if we placed a £10 accumulator on those games, the combined odds = 62.56, meaning we would see a return of £625.60, a massive difference.

The danger with an accumulator is that if just one result doesn’t go your way, you lose. Although some bookmakers offer ‘ACCA Insurance’, and if one fixture lets you down, you get your stake returned.

You can also use bookmaker’s Bet Builder, which enables you to combine different bets in the same match. For example, in the Nottingham Forest game v Liverpool. We believe Mohamed Salah will score first (10/3), Emmanuel Dennis will be booked (15/8), and there will be over nine corners (4/7). Select these options, and Bet Builder will combine your bets and offer a combined price. In this example, we are shown 18.57/1.

It’s always worth spending time and assessing all the different bet types you can place. You’ll discover you can bet on almost all incidents. Players to score, booked, sent off, number of corners, what minute the first goal will be scored in, the list is almost limitless.

World Cup Betting Guide – Over / Under Betting + BTTS

Football is all about scoring goals, and one of the most popular bets is the over / under betting market. It’s really easy to understand, the bookmaker will give a number of goals, and you predict if the total number of goals in the game will be higher (over) or lower (under) than shown.

For example, the game between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, bet365 are offering 2.5 goals. As it is impossible to score half a goal, the number of goals scored will be either higher or lower than that number. In this case, they are offering 1/2 for over 2.5 goals (3 or More) and 13/8 to be under (2 or less). As £10 on 1/2 would return £15 (£10 x 1/2 + stake) compared to £26.25 for under (£10 x 13/8 + stake), we know that bookmakers think that plenty of goals are likely.

We highly recommend you use a website to check the current goalscoring form of a team.

Soccerstats is an excellent example. Using this tool, I can see that 40% of Nottingham Forest’s games at home result in over 2.5 goals. These figures would normally be a reason to back the under market, however, Liverpool’s away form is such that 75% of their away games result in over 2.5 goals being scored.

Another popular market is the Both Teams to Score (BTTS) bet. As it’s name suggests, you are predicting if both teams will score.

Another tool we suggest is our betting calculator, which helps you work out potential returns. Also, on that page, you find more details on the vast range of accumulator bets you can place. We also have a dedicated page of all betting types available to you.
