It’s easy to see how each operator excels when you read through the rest of the page. We break down how our team of experts analyses each Serie A bookie, and show you how we came to our conclusions.

The Criteria We Use When Choosing the Best Bookmakers for the Serie A

There are numerous bookies that cater for betting on Serie A. Given the passion of English fans for the partaking of football betting, it would be criminal of a bookie not to do so. However, there are a number of criteria that we have identified and that have allowed us to pick our Top 5, thus giving you the best online betting sites to bet with.

Each of these parameters will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs. Here, we will limit ourselves to saying that the value of payouts is fundamental to understanding how substantial a win could be. Equally important is the presence of periodic promotions, something that can make the experience of playing with an operator more rewarding. Having a streaming service is also of enormous use for live betting and having a large number of markets available is also desired.

Serie A Odds and Payouts: Why They Are Important

Surely, you’d prefer to win £100 betting on Serie A instead of £80? Knowing the value of odds and payouts is essential to choosing the bookmaker to rely on, because the payout is exactly the figure that indicates how high your winnings would be. The higher the percentage, the higher the profit. The minimum and maximum values of the payouts for the Serie A offered by bookies that make up our top 5 are found in the table below.

Each operator has very similar payouts, and that is to be expected, as they are the best. We can see how that reflects in the Serie A odds for the winner of the 2022/23 season – seen in the table below.

Fiorentina 80/1* Visit Site

As you can see, the bookies think that there could be multiple winners of the league and that is reflected in the Serie A betting odds. There’s no clear-cut favourite this year and it is an intriguing prospect.

Best Serie A Betting Offers

In our betting bonuses page we explain in detail the various promotions offered by online bookmakers for football. Unfortunately, there are very few directly targeted Serie A betting offers. Even so, bookies are always showing off their imagination to tease punters with offers and convince them to play on their platforms.

These range from traditional multiple bonuses, with multipliers that increase winnings as the number of games you bet on increases, to higher odds on major games, to additional bonuses in the case of games without goals or refunds in the case of sending offs or goals from outside the area. So, keep an eye out! To make watching Serie A more interesting, why not bet on Inter or AC Milan to sign someone, on our dedicated transfer betting page?

Live Betting and Streaming

One of the most popular wagering methods is in-play betting, which is discussed in detail on our live betting sites in the UK page. All Serie A betting sites allow you to place these types of bets and have some form of live offer. Some bookies also offer streaming, something that allows you to watch the game comfortably, whilst having the chance to place a bet, all the while being able to see with your own eyes how a match is developing.

Number of Markets Available

If Serie A betting was limited to guessing the final result of a match, there wouldn’t be much to write about. Luckily, bookies try to offer users a large number of markets to bet on, so as to make the gaming experience more varied and enjoyable. Of course, betting on Serie A will have a different amount of markets depending on the relevance of the matches: a big match will also have more markets, while a smaller one will be more limited.

In general, Serie A and major tournaments such as the World Cup, have more markets than a less followed tournament like the Belgian league. Finally, given the increasing use of mobile devices, as we explain on our betting apps page, it is important that bookmakers for Serie A offer the same amount of markets for both desktop and mobile versions of their platforms.

The Different Italian League Betting Markets

Let’s start with the chapter you’ve all been waiting for, Serie A betting: in the next paragraphs, we will talk about the different types of wagers, making the distinction between bets on single games and between so-called ante-post. To accompany the different types of wagering, we will provide you with updated statistics on Serie A, so that if you want to make a bet on one of the markets that we present, you can do so whilst being well-informed.

Bet on Individual Games

The first markets we want to talk about are those related to the single games. We will introduce you to some of the bets, but it must be noted there are many more to be found, with some operators having even up to 150 types of play available. In the box below you will find the operator who, in our opinion, is really one of the best Serie A betting sites. For a more in-depth view of what we cover in the next paragraphs, please see our page dedicated to the types of bets on football.

Betting on the Final Result (1X2) and Stats

Let’s start with the most widespread and easily understandable of all the bets on Serie A, the one on the final result of the match. Below you will find the graphic element that tells the statistics on the results of the 2021/22 season: as you can see, the home team victory occurred the most, whilst a draw the least, a figure below that of the Premier League. These figures are something to take into consideration, when choosing to place a bet, and can be helpful with games featuring equally matched teams.

1
Home team

In the 2021/22 season the home team won 41.05% of their games.

X
Draw

A match ending in a draw occurred 96 times, or 25.26% of the total matches played in 2021/22.

2
Away team

During the 2021/22 Serie A season, the away team was victorious 128 times, or 33.68% of the time.

The Both Teams to Score Bet and Related Stats

If you want to place a both teams to score bet, you have to try and guess if both teams will score at least one goal in the game. The pie chart below tells us how it went in the 2021/22 season: the probability was 50/50, so it is very even as to whether this will happen or not. In tournaments like the Bundesliga this figure is very different.

Over/Under Market and Stats

If you think the next match between Juventus and Napoli will have a total of 4 goals, then you should bet for the ‘Over’. However, the Italian league is famed for its defence, and if you think the tradition will carry on, and there’ll only be a max of 2 goals, then choose the Under. This type of bet is predicting whether there are more or fewer goals of a fixed amount. Generally, this figure is 2.5. As to be expected, the under was more prevalent in the previous season.

Outright Betting on the Serie A

Betting on single games is obviously not the only type proposed by Serie A bookies. In fact, there are also the so-called ante-post bets, ie on events of longer duration, such as the entire championship, and that are related to the final results of the league. In the following paragraphs, we will examine some of them.

Betting on the League Winner

An image of the Juventus team celebrating. Among the bets on Serie A, the most classic of the ante-post bets is the one that chooses the eventual champion. The 2021/22 season saw AC Milan surprising win. This market is often one that true punters would tend to avoid. A gimmicky market that can only be made profitable when combined with other league winners from European leagues, fashioned in a pre-season champions accumulator is your most likely way to utilise this market in Serie A.

League Winner Without the Champion Bets

Second place medals. As the name suggests, the purpose of this ante-post market is to guess who will be second in the standings at the end of the Serie A season. This is a very interesting market and well quoted since second place has been much more unpredictable in recent years. In the 2021/22 season, it was a toss-up between four clubs, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus and Napoli. Finishing second place in this division is often a hotly contested battle, with plenty of viable candidates.

Betting on Teams to Be Relegated

Bari and Pescara FC logos. In contrast to the champions, there are those teams who end up being relegated to Serie B. This market allows you to predict whether a particular team will go down or not. There is also the “last in the ranking” variant, where you choose the team that finishes absolute last. In the image opposite, you can see the logos of Bari and Pescara, the two teams that boast the unenviable record of the highest number of relegations to Serie B.

Betting on the Top Scorer

Mauro Icardi and Ciro Immobile headshots with a football next to them This ante-post bet does not concern the teams but instead individual players. Basically, you predict who will be the top scorer in Serie A at the end of the current season. Understandably, the most popular strikers who have already won in the past have lower odds than the outsiders. Cristiano Ronaldo took home the trophy one last time before departing to Manchester United in the English Premier League.

Serie A is the top Italian football league. Its current formula, a double round-robin system, has been in place since 1929, while the first championship was awarded in 1898 with a two-group formula: the first team to win the title was Genoa. The team that wins the title, gets a badge that will appear on the club’s shirts for the entire following season. When every tenth title won is won, a star is assigned underneath the club’s crest.

Since 2004, Serie A has been made up of 20 teams, with 3 relegations and 3 promotions from Serie B. The winner, the second, third and fourth team in the standings qualify for the Champions League, while fifth and sixth in the standings qualify for the Europa League – or the winner of the Italian Cup, the Coppa Italia. The team in seventh gets the Conference League (or sixth if the cup winner is outside the top five)

In the table opposite you can find a summary of Serie A. The tournament takes place between the months of August and May, with the recent introduction of a break in January and the simultaneous decision to play two rounds over the Christmas holidays. There are also two transfer windows. The summer one takes place in the months of July and August and ends at midnight on the Friday before the first day of the season. There is also a mid-season one that takes place in January.

A classic league that commands lots of respect around the world, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a reason not to enjoy the football on display here. It is classically tactical, and critics will say the pace and style of the football is too slow and cagey. But this league has seen some exceptional talents over the years and remains one of the world’s most popular.

The teams of the Serie A: An Overview

We will now devote ourselves to some paragraphs relating to the most prestigious teams of Serie A. We will provide numerous statistics on records of the Italian league, and we will find that it is not only the most popular teams, Juventus, Inter or Milan that excel here, although of course, they are the most present.

The Teams with the Most Serie A Titles

The team that has won the most championships in Italy is, rather unsurprisingly, Juventus, a 36-time winner (even if the Turin club attributes one more to itself, this title was stripped because of the match-fixing scandal known as Calciopoli in 2006). As you can see in the table below, the list is made up of Inter and Milan, second at 19, and Genoa, who boast 9 titles, although the last one dates back to the 1923-24 season.

Teams that have won the most Serie A titles
Team Badge Number Won Stadium Foundation
Juventus 36 Allianz Stadium 1897
Inter 19 San Siro 1908
Milan 19 San Siro 1899
Genoa 9 Stadio Luigi Ferraris 1893
Bologna 7 Stadio Renato Dall’Ara 1909
Pro Vercelli 7 Stadio Silvio Piola 1903
Torino 7 Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino 1906
Roma 3 Stadio Olimpico 1927
Fiorentina 2 Stadio Artemio Franchi 1926
Lazio 2 Stadio Olimpico 1900
Napoli 22 Stadio San Paolo 1926

What Are the Team Records of the Serie A?

In the next boxes, we have decided to introduce you to some team records from Serie A: all information that may come in handy when you decide to bet later on. We’ll talk about the longest streak of consecutive wins, the teams with the longest time in the league, and more. Find out what the statistics tell you with us!

  • Inter Milan shirt.
Team with the Most Consecutive Victories

The team with the most consecutive Serie A victories is Inter Milan. In the 2006/07 season, they reeled off 17 wins in a row. This helped them win the league by 22 points!

  • Inter Milan shirt.
Team with the Most Seasons in the League

Since its inauguration in 1929/30, there has only been one team to have played in every season. Inter Milan. That is 91 seasons in a row.

  • A.C. Milan shirt.
Team with the Longest Unbeaten Streak

Not to be outdone by Internazionale, A.C. Milan hold the record for the longest unbeaten streak in the Serie A. They went a staggering 58 games without defeat, from May 1991 to March 1993.

  • Juventus shirt.
Team with the Fewest Goals Conceded in a Season

Since the Serie A expanded to 20 teams, meaning 38 games now make up a season, Juventus have had the best overall defensive record. In 2015/16 they only conceded 20 goals, guided by the safe hands of Gigi Buffon.

  • Inter Milan shirt.
Team with the Most Goals in a Season

Unsurprisingly, it’s Inter Milan that holds this record, as the league had 20 teams in 1949/50. The next closest is Napoli, which bagged 94 goals a few seasons ago.

Betting on Serie A: How Does It Work?

At the beginning of this page, we said that betting on Serie A is not easy to get right. It’s a very difficult championship from a tactical point of view. The tradition of Italian football is its defensive strength. This does not mean that the games always end without a goal, indeed, the statistics on the over/under bets tells us the opposite, but there is no doubt that the approach to the game pays great attention to the defensive phase.

That’s why it’s important when partaking in Serie A betting to keep in mind the characteristics of the teams. You should utilise statistics on goals for and against, and pay particular attention to the latest head to head, and form. This way you can get a more accurate idea for your bet.

Which Bookies Should You Watch out For?

It goes without saying that there are some Serie A bookies out there you need to watch out for. Therefore, we recommend betting on sites that we feature here. They are all fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and are fully safe and secure.

Those we have selected in the Top 5 are really the most competitive sites for your Serie A betting needs. That doesn’t mean that if you choose another one you’ll be on to a loser. However, we ask you to trust the choice made by our experts, considering the fact that there are many cowboys out and about.
