DraftKings to Broadcast Live Streaming of the Bundesliga
American daily fantasy sports provider and sportsbook operator DraftKings has secured the rights to stream live Bundesliga football action.
German top-flight football became the first major European league to return on the 16th of May, and this deal allows the operator to stream all the games to their customers.
To view the action, DraftKings’ customers need to have a positive account balance and must reside in a state that allows sports betting and streaming. Currently, the six eligible states are; New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, West Virginia and New Hampshire.
DraftKings was able to secure this exclusive deal to show Bundesliga games due to their partnership with Sportradar, one the world’s leading global provider of sports data and content and the holders of the Bundesliga streaming rights for the US.
As part of the partnership, Sportradar provides DraftKings with access to a variety of official sports data feeds, including the NFL, MLB, and the NBA for sports betting and daily fantasy sports (DFS) as well as Bundesliga data and streams.
DraftKings, chief business officer, Ezra Kucharz speaking about the partnership in November last year said it would enhance customer experience by allowing the company to provide faster turnaround time on their products. He added that a collaborative approach would present an opportunity to develop new, innovative offerings for DraftKings players.
Kucharz stated that the deal with Sportradar aligned with his vision for the company, saying:
DraftKings’ goal is to build the best, most trusted and most customer-centric destination for sports fans and our expanded partnership with Sportradar provides us with superior support.– Ezra Kucharz, DraftKings
DraftKings acquisition of Bundesliga rights is also likely to see new products for the company’s European customers. Famous for their daily fantasy product, which has 11 million registered players and is available in 8 countries, DraftKings state they intend to launch a DFS based on the German league.
DraftKings was founded in 2012 in Boston as a provider of paid daily fantasy sports contests. Two years ago, the US Supreme Court invalidated a long-standing federal ban on sports betting. By voting 6-3 to revoke the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, the ability to licence gambling activity was given to individual states.
An opportunity that DraftKings has taken full advantage of, they are the leading sportsbook in nearly half of the states that have legalised gambling. DraftKings is the Official Daily Fantasy Partner of the NFL and PGA Tour as well as an Authorised Gaming Operator of the MLB and NBA.
