Champions League Betting: Matchday 5

Champions League action resumes Tuesday and Wednesday after a week break with some great games to watch, including Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City. On Wednesday, Barcelona faces a “last chance saloon” match against Bayern Munich.

Champions League Match Day 5

There are eight games taking place on Tuesday. Our featured game is Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City.

Champions League Matchday 5: Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City

As we covered in this week’s betting week in review, domestically, Manchester City closed the gap in the Premier League to just two points after they beat Brighton 3-1 and Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw away at Brighton.

In the Champions League, they are out in front, topping Group G with ten points, three ahead of their next opponent Borussia Dortmund who are three points behind. A win against Dortmund would guarantee that City would top their group with a game to spare, a bonus in a packed schedule. However, City struggled in their last match, only managing a 1-1 draw with Copenhagen, the bottom team in the group. As the group winners play a second-placed team in the knockout round, winning the group could have benefits.

What are the odds for Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City? – The bookies expect a City win, bet365 are pricing City at 3/5. The draw at 10/3 and a home win for Dortmund at 4/1.

Players to watch – Jude Bellingham is the danger man for the home side, and the Englishman is Dortmund’s top scorer with four goals. The only other player to have scored more than one goal in Europe is the defence-minded Raphaël Guerreiro, who has two. Marco Reus and Julian Brandt both have a goal each. For City, the obvious name is Erling Haaland, who already has 11 Champions League goals this season in the 206 minutes he’s been on the pitch. City has five players on one goal; John Stones, Julian Alvarez, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Ruben Dias.

Bets to consider – Bet365 offers a couple of Bet Boosts that sound feasible. The first is City to win the match by two goals or more, both teams to score and for Jack Grealish to score at any time for 14/1. The dubious part of the bet is Grealish to score as the £100m man has only scored one this campaign (against Wolves in the Premier League). As City struggled in their last Champions League game, another bet to consider is a draw or Dortmund to win, Youssoufa Moukoko to score and both teams to score. Moukoko has four league goals so far, but at 17, he is more likely to come on as a substitute.

There are eight games taking place on Wednesday. Our featured game is Barcelona v Bayern Munich.

Champions League Matchday 5: Barcelona v Bayern Munich

Like many neutrals, the game we are really looking forward to on Wednesday is the clash between Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Barcelona is in trouble in the group and needs a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Barcelona beat Viktoria Plzen 5-1 in their first game but lost two, including a 2-0 defeat against Bayern, who has a 100% record. They lost to Inter 1-0 away before a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Italians on matchday 4.

What are the odds for Barcelona v Bayern Munich? – There is very little between the sides, with Barcelona just ahead in the betting stakes at 5/4. The visitors are on 7/4, and the draw is available at 3/1.

Players to watch – For Barcelona, the leading man is Robert Lewandowski, who has 12 league goals in ten LaLiga starts. In the Champions League, he has five in four starts. For Bayern, their threat is more spread out with Jamal Musiala (6) and the double act of Leroy Sané (5) and Sadio Mané (5). The German’s top scorer in the Champions League is Sané, with four goals in four games.

Bets to consider – Bookmakers believe Barcelona will win this and keep a clean sheet. The odds on a Barcelona win and both teams not scoring are 9/2, compared to a Barcelona win and both teams scoring at 9/2. If you believe this to be the case, 1-0 to Barcelona is 12/1, 2-0 is 14/1, and a healthy 3-0 win is 22/1. For a Bayern success, 1-0 is 14/1, 2-0 is 18/1, and 3-0 is 28/1.
