Premier League Matchday 38 Preview – Prediction + Tips for 2018/19

Once again, another EPL season is almost over. This year has been a rollercoaster of twists and turns, and it’s not over yet. Liverpool or Manchester City will be crowned champions on Sunday.

As usual, all the action kicks off at the same time. Balls will be kicked for last time this season on Sunday at 3pm and the champions will be decided.

Match of the Day

Liverpool pulled off a miracle in Europe and go into this with momentum. But, they have to hope that Manchester City drop points to Brighton.

  • Venue: Anfield
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 3/10 D: 5/1 A: 10/1

About the Game:

There’s little to say about Liverpool’s victory over Barcelona that hasn’t already been written. The Reds are back in the Champions League final after coming back from three goals down.

That win means Liverpool come into this with momentum, but it changes little. The Reds know they have to win and hope that Manchester City drop points against Brighton. Their fate is effectively out of their hands. Nevertheless, it has been an incredible season for Liverpool. Even if they miss out on the league title here, they have a champions league final against Tottenham awaiting, where they will definitely be favourites. Andy Robertson could miss out here through injury, while Firmino is also a doubt.

Bet on the Liverpool v Wolves game this Sunday

Wolves have secured seventh spot with a game to spare. It is a fitting reward for an excellent first season back in the Premier League.

Breaking into the top six seems impossible but Wolves can only go up from here. They have a great record against the big teams, and if they can improve against the teams below them in the table, then they can pick up even more points. Europa League football awaits the players and fans next season. This is a difficult match and the season may end with defeat, but that won’t matter. Wolves have established themselves as a team to reckon with after just one season in the top flight.

Prediction: Liverpool Win – Liverpool can only win here and hope that City drop points.

Rest of the Premier League Games

As is custom, all the action will kick off at the same time, 3pm on Sunday, for the last games of the season.

Brighton v Manchester City

  • Venue: AMEX
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 18/1 D: 15/2 A: 1/6

About the Game:

This is the other key match. Brighton are on a terrible run and are a huge 18/1 to win here. But, they have held both Arsenal and Tottenham to a draw recently, so there is still the chance that they could do it again.

City know what they have to do. Win and the title is theirs. There may be some nerves, and Brighton may prove a tough nut to crack, but City are unlikely to mess up here. We will likely to the Champions crowned at the AMEX.

Prediction: Manchester City Win + Under 3.5 goals – City are unlikely to mess this up, but it may be nervier than usual.

Burnley v Arsenal

  • Venue: Turf Moor
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 9/4 D: 14/5 A: 6/5

About the Game:

Burnley assured safety a few weeks back after a topsy turvy season. The Europa League seemed to have a huge impact this season after Burnley finished 7th last year. Expect a better campaign from Burnley next year.

Arsenal’s shocking domestic form of late has meant they have missed out on an automatic UCL place. They have made the Europa League final though and will have the chance to make it to the UCL via the Europa League. Expect Emery’s mind to be on that match.

Prediction: Both teams to score – Neither team has much to play for and the defending may be poor.

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth

  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Roger East
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 10/11 D: 16/5 A: 14/5

About the Game:

Palace have had another decent season under Hodgson and will finish ahead of their opponents whatever the result here.

Bournemouth have earned their best ever points total, a sign that things are on the up at the club. The Cherries started the season strongly but have stuttered since. Gaining consistency could see Bournemouth challenging for a top ten finish next season.

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals – Two attacking teams that are playing with the shackles off.

Fulham v Newcastle

  • Venue: Craven Cottage
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 6/4 D: 13/5 A: 19/10

About the Game:

Fulham improved since relegation was confirmed with three wins on the bounce. However, it has been a disastrous season, with the club investing so much money into this campaign. There could be an exodus from Craven Cottage, so it will be interesting to see how Fulham shape up next season.

Benitez has once again done a fantastic job with limited resources. Will this summer finally be the time Mike Ashley puts his hand in his pockets? Benitez is being linked with other jobs around Europe and with better resources he could surely do a great job.

Prediction: Newcastle Draw no bet – We don’t see Fulham’s last home game in the EPL ending with victory.

Leicester v Chelsea

  • Venue: The King Power Stadium
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 7/5 D: 11/4 A: 19/10

About the Game:

Leicester almost had a huge influence on the season when they almost held Manchester City to a draw last week. Brendan Rogers has turned the club in the right direction since taking over, so Leicester could be once again be a force to be reckoned with next season.

It has been a strange season for Chelsea. After a fantastic start, they went massively off form, but have finished in the top four and made the Europa League final. Sarri may not even be at the club next year, along with Eden Hazard, while no new players will come in if Chelsea’s transfer ban is upheld. The Blues have secured a Champions League spot, but things could look very different at Stamford Bridge next season.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals – Leicester are tight at the back and Chelsea have a Europa League final still to play.

Manchester United v Cardiff City

  • Venue: Old Trafford
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Jonathan Moss
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 2/7 D: 11/2 A: 10/1

About the Game:

It’s been a disappointing season for United fans. There are rumours of a walk out here as a statement against Ed Woodward’s running of the club. United could also look very different season, with any number of players potentially leaving. Solksjaer will be at the helm next season, but a number of first team players may not be there.

Cardiff couldn’t survive their first season back in the EPL but they gave it a good shot. Warnock is an experienced manager and the Seagulls will have every chance of making it back up in the following season.

Prediction: Manchester United Win – It’s United’s last home game of the season and while there are problems on and off the pitch they should have enough to beat Cardiff.

Southampton v Huddersfield

  • Venue: St Marys’
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Lee Probert
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 4/9 D: 15/4 A: 15/2

About the Game:

Southampton made a great move in signing Hasenhuttl as manager. The Saints were in massive danger of relegation, but he has turned things around and they once again look like a good team. With some good transfer business, next season should be much better for Southampton fans. To bet on Southampton signing someone, check out our list of the best transfer betting sites.

Huddersfield finished rock bottom, but they are not in a bad position to challenge for promotion next season. A draw against Manchester United last week was perhaps the only highlight of late, but they may get a shot at a goal here.

Prediction: Southampton Win – Southampton are strong at home and will look to finish the season with a win.

Tottenham v Everton
Tottenham Form Guide LDDDW
Everton Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 6/5 D: 5/2 A: 5/2

About the Game:

Spurs have finished in the top four and made the UCL final in dramatic circumstances. It’s a credit to the job done by Pochettino, especially as he doesn’t have the financial capacities of many of his rivals.

Everton had a rocky season, but they are finishing strongly. A win here will ensure 8th place, which is not a bad finish. Marco Silva seems to have improved the defence in recent weeks. If that continues to next season, then Everton could definitely go one better.

Prediction: Both teams to score – There’s little riding on this so we could see a fine attacking game of football.

Watford v West Ham
Watford Form Guide DDWLL
West Ham Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Sunday 12 May 15:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 5/4 D: 11/4 A: 11/5

About the Game:

Watford have had a strong season but 7th place has proved just beyond them. They are three games without a win now though, so will want to finish the season on a high.

West Ham could finish above Watford with win here, despite an up and down season. However, things are heading in the right direction for the Hammers, who will be looking forward to next season. Depending on other results, West Ham could finish as high as 9th should they win here.

Prediction: West Ham Draw no bet – With Watford on a bad run, we fancy West Ham to get something from this game.
