Match of the Day

These two teams will be facing each other in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley this Sunday, and then again in the Premier League next Thursday. About the Game:

Arsenal were unlucky last time out, coming against a well-organised Tottenham team, they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the North London derby in what turned out to be an incredibly frustrating day for Wenger’s newly assembled team. Manchester City suffered a shock defeat away to Wigan in the FA Cup after Fabian Delph received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle, and Guardiola’s dream of achieving the quadruple crashed and burned as well! However, the dominance shown throughout this season by Manchester City has been undeniable, this will be a true test of character for Manchester City trying to bounce back after a particularly disappointing defeat in the FA Cup.

Manchester City have been a defensive force this season, conceding just 20 goals, they have had many clean sheets and went on a huge unbeaten run during the first half of the season. In the middle of the park they have been creative and dominant: Kevin De Bruyne appears to have elevated his game to a whole new level under the guidance of Pep, partnered with the workhorse Fernandinho they have successfully crushed oppositions midfield. Going forward Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have demonstrated the ability to stretch teams and penetrate the space behind wing backs with their lightning speed and slight-of-foot. Then Sergio Aguero, a man who has redefined the art of goal scoring, always finding little pockets of space where he can inflict damage.

Bet on the match of the week between Arsenal and Manchester City at BetVictor

Arsene Wenger will certainly be feeling the pressure going into this game. Losing to Tottenham last time out was dissapointing, especially considering the huge sums of money the club have spent bringing in the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. It will be an excellent opportunity for this newly formed squad to win their first scalp by taking out the league leaders.

We expect this to be a very attacking game from the outset. Both teams have raw goal-scoring ability in their ranks. When considering the past matches of both clubs, Man City will want to return to winning form, whereas Arsenal are fighting for league positions. Arsenal still with one-eye on the Europa League and the other on the top-four will need to win this match if they want to keep the dream of Champions League qualification alive.

Prediction: Arsenal win & over 3.5 goals – This will be a fiercely fought contest. Pending the Carabao Cup Final result on Sunday, it is hard to make an accurate call at this moment in time – goals is guaranteed and I can see Wenger’s men nicking this one.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Our selected match of Gameweek 28 is Arsenal vs. Manchester City on the 1st March – now we’ll be taking a look at the nine games coming up this weekend. There are some fantastic matches in store, including a showdown between two Premier League giants, Manchester United and Chelsea!

Leicester v Stoke

  • Venue: King Power Arena
  • Saturday 24 February 12:30
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/11 D: 5/2 A: 4/1

About the Game:

Leicester City had an extremely tough fixture last week against an in form Manchester City side and ended up conceding heavily as the game finished 5-1. However, there was a silver-lining for the Foxes, Jamie Vardy bagged himself another goal taking him to 4-consecutive games finding the back of the net, the longest since his record breaking run of 11-games last season.

As for Stoke, this is a matter of survival. Paul Lambert’s men have been struggling and find themselves in the bottom three at this later stage in the Premier League season. The new manager will be hoping to reignite the squad, hoping to spur on a reaction from star players such as Xherdan Shaqiri after their draw against Brighton.

Prediction: Both teams to score – Stoke are a strong outfit when they get on the ball and have the ability to score at Leicester.

Bournemouth v Newcastle

Newcastle Form Guide DLLDW
  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Saturday 24 February 15:00
  • Referee: Roger East
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/1 D: 12/5 A: 11/4

About the Game:

Bournemouth have proved again this season that they are more than capable of holding their own in the top flight. Finding themselves on the brink of the top-half of the table, with survival all but guaranteed would have been an acceptable position for the board of the club. They have also been on excellent home form going into this one, three wins on the bounce looking to make it four and set a new record for consecutive Premier League wins.

Newcastle have been solid since the turn of the new year, picking up a couple of wins including a shock defeat of Manchester United in a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Away from home they have demonstrated their ability to win matches after their 0-1 defeat of Stoke back in January. It’ll be a close game between these two mid-table clubs on Saturday!

Prediction: U 2.5 goals – These are two very evenly matched sides both with typically low scoring records in these type of fixtures. 5 out of the last 6 Premier League games involving Newcastle have finished with U 2.5 goals.

Brighton v Swansea

  • Venue: AMEX
  • Saturday 24 February 15:00
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 23/20 D: 11/5 A: 5/2

About the Game:

Both teams go into this game without a defeat in their previous 5 games, from all competitions. Brighton’s in-form striker Jose Izquierdo will be looking to extend his scoring form to three straight matches in the Premier League taking him into the Columbian hall of fame for Premier League goal-scoring.

Swansea seem to have steadied the ship after a precarious start to the season. However, they still find themselves in a dangerous position at the bottom of the table only 1 point from safety. It is certainly a game of survival between these two on Saturday. With seven teams still in the relegation battle at the bottom of the table – a win will be the main objective to ensure survival.

Prediction: Both teams to score – This is a game of survival and both teams will be looking to take risks to win this match.

Burnley v Southampton

  • Venue: Turf Moor
  • Saturday 24 February 15:00
  • Referee: Bobby Madley
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 7/4 D: 7/4 A: 13/8

About the Game:

Burnley have been consistent throughout the season, game-management and tactics have been absolutely outstanding and they find themselves in 7th place. They will be looking to cement this position now that safety has been secured. With safety guaranteed and European football basically out of reach, the pressure is off for Burnley.

Southampton are struggling to find form, dropping crucial points left right and center. However, they’ll be spurred on from their victory over West Brom in their previous away Premier League fixture and they’ll be going into this one with the ambition of rising out of the relegation positions.

Prediction: Southampton Draw no Bet – This game could easily finish as a draw but I don’t see Southampton losing this one given the seriousness of their situation and the ability they have on the pitch.

Liverpool v West Ham
Man City Form Guide WLWWD
West Ham Form Guide WDWLD
  • Venue: Anfield
  • Saturday 25 February 15:00
  • Referee: Stuart Atwell
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/5 D: 11/2 A: 12/1

About the Game:

Liverpool will be looking to strengthen their position in the top four this weekend. With league rivals Manchester United and Chelsea playing each other this week it is an excellent opportunity for them to potentially take 2nd spot in the league and distance themselves from the pack. Mohamed Salah has been in electric form, averaging just 62 mins. between a goal or assist in the top-flight.

For West Ham this will be a tough fixture. They sit comfortably in the middle of the table and are coming into this fixture off the back of well earned three points at home to Watford. West Ham have been dangerous away from home recently, picking up goals in six previous Premier League away outings.

Prediction: Liverpool win & over 3.5 goals – This will be a game with goals, West Ham will be trying to maintain their stellar goal scoring record so may contribute to the total, and we expect a few from a soaring Liverpool front-three.

West Brom v Huddersfield
West Brom Form Guide LLLLL

  • Venue: The Hawthorns
  • Saturday 24 February 15:00
  • Referee: Jonathan Moss
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 19/20 D: 11/5 A: 16/5

About the Game:

West Brom find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League going into this fixture, and it is at this point in the season the squad will need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask what are they willing to give in order to ensure the survival of their club’s Premier League status. They will feel confident going into this one, West Brom are unbeaten in their last 5 home matches against promoted teams (W3 D2). Both teams have struggled defensively and West Brom will certainly be sensing an opportunity to get on the score sheet here.

Huddersfield have been struggling lately too, losing 4 out of their last 5 matches in the league. Their position in the table is far from secure, with the conjested bottom half of the table their are still potentially 7 teams that could go down, Huddersfield are only 1 point clear of the drop zone, so they will need a strong end to the season if they are going to avoid a relegation battle.

Prediction: West Brom win – This will be a fiercely fought match, but West Brom should have enough about them to get three points here.

Watford v Everton
Watford Form Guide WDLDD

  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 24 February 17:30
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 23/20 D: 11/5 A: 5/2

About the Game:

The late kick off sees a mid-table battle between two sides that are very evenly matched across the pitch. Watford will be feeling confident after their emphatic victory over Chelsea last time out in front of their home fans. Watford have been an entertaining side to watch this season, and we fully expect this game to live up to its TV listing time slot.

Everton have been re-vitalised by the new signing Theo Walcott, adding a new dimension to their attacking threat. After suffering a heavy defeat away from home to Arsenal, Everton bounced back with a decisive victory at home to struggling Crystal Palace. They will have to build on last weeks performance if they are to get a result this Saturday.

Prediction: Both teams to score – The past form of both teams suggest this is going to be another goal fest.

Crystal Palace v Tottenham
Crystal Palace Form Guide LDDDW
Spurs Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Sunday 25 February 12:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 6/1 D: 10/3 A: 9/20

About the Game:

Crystal Palace will entertain fellow London outfit, Tottenham, in what could be a very difficult afternoon for the home side. Crystal Palace have had a frustrating season, much of this has been directed toward their front-man Christian Benteke, who has become the center of criticism for his lack of composure in front of goal. Benteke and the rest of the Palace squad can’t afford to squander chances if they are to gain anything from this one.

Tottenham have been absolutely ruthless this season. Harry Kane has once again proved the doubters, if there are any still left, that he is a world class striker. Players like Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen have been been brilliant, creative and ruthless going forward: Dele Alli is also showing signs of developing into a world class attacking midfielder. Pochettino will be looking for a professional display of dominance from his team as they continue to push for the top-four places.

Prediction: Tottenham -1.5 Asian Handicap – Fully expect Spurs to demolish Crystal Palace here. In terms of goalscorers Harry Kane anytime can be backed at around 8/13

Manchester United v Chelsea

  • Venue: Old Trafford
  • Sunday 25 February 14:05
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 11/10 D: 9/4 A: 13/5

About the Game:

The blockbuster fixture of the weekend. Manchester United had a tough away fixture in the Champions League against Sevilla midweek managing to hold out for a 0-0 draw as David De Gea proved why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Back on home turf, against long standing rivals Chelsea will be a captivating contest. Can Mourinho outwit his old employers this Sunday?

Chelsea are coming into this one off the back of a brilliant home performance against Barcelona in the Champions League which finished 1-1. They will have another tough battle against Manchester United and the squad must be feeling the intensity of competing at the highest levels of world football. Players like Eden Hazard and N’golo Kante will need to put in solid shifts if they are to come away with points in this one.

Prediction: Chelsea win – After their performance against Barcelona Chelsea demonstrated how they can play football. Conte will be feeling the pressure and his players will respond accordingly.
