Premier League Matchday 25 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2019/20

It’s matchweek 25 of the EPL, there are some good looking fixtures this weekend. Liverpool are now 19 points clear and the title is all but won.

The real intrigue is at the bottom of the table, where only two points separates five teams. At the other end, Man Utd still have slim hopes of Champions League football, although they have a tough test this weekend.

Match of the Day

The weekend’s best match is the game between Spurs and City. Jose Mourinho is struggling to find his feet, whilst City are desperate to keep winning. The title is miles away, but they still need to finish strong.

  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Sunday 2 February 16:30
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 24/5 D:10/3 A: 11/20

About the Game:

Spurs’ inconsistent form has continued under Jose Mourinho and they remain six point off the Champions League places. Even so, if they could string together a decent run of for, they will be in with a shout of finishing fourth.

One player who is thriving under Mourinho is Dele Alli, who as played a part in nine goals in sixteen games under the Portuguese manager. Spurs will be hoping for some magic from him this weekend, especially as they are winless in six PL meeting with City, having lost four over that span.

Bet on Tottenham v Man City at William Hill

City come into this one unbeaten in five PL games, and although they lost midweek to United at home, they still qualified for the League Cup final. They will want to carry on their good form in the league, even if their slim hope of a title challenge is melting away.

City players, Aymeric Laporte, Fernandinho, and Bernard Mendy could feature, but face late fitness tests. Some good news is that Leroy Sane is back in training, yet he is still some way off full match fitness. City have scored in 23 away matches in a row an incredible feat, and they are only four games away from the record.

Prediction: City to win – The Citizens will be too much for Spurs. It could be a high scorer and BTTS could also be a good shout.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Coming up are our previews and betting tips for all the rest of the weekend’s action.

Leicester v Chelsea

  • Venue: King Power Stadium
  • Saturday 1 February 12:30
  • Referee: Lee Mason
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 6/4 D: 13/5 A: 17/10

About the Game:

The fact that Leicester are the favourites coming into this one shows how well they have performed over this season. The Foxes should be boosted with Jamie Vardy returning,a lthough Wes Morgan is still out with a groin injury. Victory for Rodgers would cement their stake for a Champions League place.

Chelsea remain in fourth for the 12th week in a row. They will be waiting on the fitness of Tammy Abraham who has been struggling with a knock. They only have two wins in five PL games and need to be more consistent if they want to finish in the CL places. Luckily, the teams below are also inconsistent.

Prediction: Draw – This will be a cagey affair with both teams not wanting to lose, we can see a draw here.

Bournemouth v Aston Villa

  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 11/10 D: 5/2 A: 5/2

About the Game:

This is one of the most important games of the weekend, with both teams fighting for survival. Only two points stand between them. Bournemouth finally won last time out, and could signal a turning point in their season. They are still in the bottom three, however, so they can’t take anything for granted.

Villa continue to battle their way through the season, and they now have a League Cup final to look forward to after beating Leicester midweek. Now they turn their attention to survival. They will be searching for their second win in a row in the league after victory against Watford in their last outing.

Prediction: Bournemouth to win – Villa’s midweek heroics will play their part as the Cherries manage to get three points.

Crystal Palace v Sheffield United

  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Andy Madley
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 21/10 D:21/10 A: 6/4

About the Game:

Palace have drawn four of their past five matches, and lost to Southampton last time out. Now they face the away draw specialists in Sheffield United. They will be boosted by the return of Luka Milivojevic after returning from suspension. They will be without Cenk Tosun, however, Christian Benteke will be available.

The Blades have only one win in six games, however, they have faced some very tough fixtures in that span. Now they turn their attention to Palace who they have already beaten this season. They are nearly at full fitness, with David McGoldrick the only injury. A fun stat is that they haven’t won in London in 20 PL games. They’ll be hoping to change that on Saturday.

Prediction: Draw – Both teams love to draw and recent form indicates this is the most likely outcome.

Liverpool v Southampton

  • Venue: Anfield
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 27/100 D: 24/5 A:10/1

About the Game:

Liverpool are in the midst of one of the greatest ever Premier League seasons. It is simply incredible what they have managed to do so far. With 23 wins and one draw, they are now 19 points clear. If they win on Saturday they could finish the day 22 point ahead of City who will play their game on Sunday.

Southampton on the other hand are also in the midst of an inspiring revival. Danny Ings faces his former club and will be wanting to carry on his incredible form. They have won their last four PL away games in a row. It’s hard to see that streak continuing this season though, as their opponents are simply formidable.

Prediction: Liverpool to win – On current form it is impossible to pick against the Reds.

Newcastle v Norwich City

  • Venue: St James’ Park
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 6/5 D: 12/5 A: 23/10

About the Game:

Newcastle come into this game boosted by some new signings. Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb, and Valentino Lazaro all put pen to paper this week and could feature. The Magpies haven’t lost to Norwich in their past nine games, and are unbeaten in three games in the league. If they win here, their safety is looking more and more likely.

Norwich are still rooted to the bottom of the league and now face a difficult away game. They are six points from safety and it seems they are certain relegation candidates. Their away record this season leaves little to be desired, with only one win, two draws, and nine defeats overall in the PL.

Prediction: Newcastle to win – Their new signings will provide a boost for the Magpies, who will win this comfortably.

Watford v Everton

  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 17/10 D: 23/10 A: 13/8

About the Game:

Watford lost for the first game in seven in their midweek fixture to Aston Villa. Despite this incredible run, they find themselves in the relegation zone once more. Even so they are unbeaten in six home games and will be hoping to get back to winning ways. They will be boosted by the return of Danny Welbeck and Will Hughes.

Everton have only lost one in nine games and have climbed to the heights of mid-table mediocrity. They will be boosted bu the returns of Alex Iwobi, Richarlison, and Gylfi Sigurdsson. What’s more Andre Gomes has resumed light training after his horrific injury earlier in the season. This game is difficult to predict and could go either way.

Prediction: Draw – Both teams are in decent form, and could cancel each other out. Even so a winner either way is not out of the question.

West Ham United v Brighton
West Ham Form Guide WDLDD
Brighton Form Guide WWWLW
  • Venue: London Stadium
  • Saturday 1 February 15:00
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 8/5 D: 23/10 A: 7/4

About the Game:

This is another key game in the fight for survival. West Ham are out of the relegation zone on goal difference, and Brighton are just two points ahead of them. A disconcerting stat for the Hammers is that they have never beaten Brighton in the Premier League. It really is crunch time at the moment and they are desperate for a win.

Brighton have lost three away matches in a row, and their last win came over a month ago and have only this victory over 10 games. Shane Duffy is injured along with Dan Burn and Jose Izquierdo. The Seagulls could find themselves in the relegation zone by the end of the day if things don’t go their way.

Prediction: West Ham to win – They kickstart their survival campaign with a much need victory against the Seagulls.

Manchester United v Wolves
Manchester United Form Guide LDDDW
Wolves Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: Old Trafford
  • Saturday 1 February 17:30
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 5/4 D: 11/5 A: 12/5

About the Game:

Man United have lost three of the past five PL games, yet due to the teams around them also being inconsistent, they still remain in fifth, albeit on goal difference. They will be without Nemanja Matic, who is suspended, along with Macus Rashford, Paul Pogba, and Scott McTominay who are all injured. New signing Bruno Fernandes is in the squad and will be a boost.

Much like Utd, Wolves have also lost three of their last five, although two of those games were against Liverpool. Wolves’ away record this season is pretty impressive with four wins, five draws, and three defeats. We can see them improving that this weekend against the worst Man United team in decades.

Prediction: Wolves to win – If they get ahead, the atmosphere at Old Trafford will turn toxic.

Burnley v Arsenal
Burnley Form Guide DDWLL
Arsenal Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: Turf Moor
  • Sunday 2 February 14:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 11/4 D: 5/2 A: 1/1

About the Game:

Burnley have two wins on the trot, and they really needed it. They are now level on points with their opponents and seven points from safety. Incredibly, Burnley have lost 11 games in a row against Arsenal. That is a dreadful stat that the Clarets need to change! What’s worse, they haven’t even once had the lead in those games.

Mikel Arteta’s start as manager hasn’t gone as well as planned, with only one win in six games. Even so, a positive is that they are unbeaten in four. They will be boosted by the return of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after completing his suspension. David Luiz will also return, however, that may not be the best for Arsenal’s defence!

Prediction: Arsenal to win – The Gunners get back winning ways after three draws in a row.
