Premier League Matchday 13 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2018/19

The Premier League is back after an enticing international break thanks to the UEFA Nations League. The Three Lions roared into the finals of the new tournament after a dramatic comeback against Croatia to win 2 – 1. Not quite sweet revenge for the semi-final elimination from the World Cup 2018 in Russia but satisfying nonetheless.

European games are on the horizon with critical games coming up in the Champions League and Europa League for the English teams. Before then we have some tasty looking Premier League fixtures coming up. High flying Tottenham and Chelsea face off, West Ham face a tough fixture against the champions Manchester City and Manchester United will be hoping to keep Alex Ferguson’s last signing, Wilfred Zaha quiet. We take a look over the upcoming fixtures and share our predictions on matchday 13.

Match of the Day

Fourth placed Tottenham welcome third-placed Chelsea to Wembley Stadium in what is the highlight of Saturday’s matches. There is just a one-point difference between the two sides and despite it being early in the season, neither team can afford to lose this and fall behind Liverpool and Manchester City who are already flying on top of the table. Both Tottenham and Chelsea are in fine form with four wins in their last five matches.

  • Venue: Wembley Stadium
  • Saturday 24th November 17:30
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 17/10 D: 12/5 A: 6/4

About the Game:

Tottenham will be targeting a seventh victory in eight Premier League matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won just 22% of their total Premier League points in home matches this season, just six points of their total 27. They welcome the return of Delle Alli who has a remarkable record against Chelsea, scoring five goals in his last four matches against The Blues in all competitions. Tottenham have won four consecutive matches and would be glad to have some of their key players back from injury as they face the blues. Harry Kane has been their target man with a total of six goals so far and four goals in his last four matches in all competitions. The last of course being the winning goal in the England match against Croatia.

Bet on the Tottenham vs Chelsea game this Saturday

There have been 52 encounters between the two sides with Chelsea dominating with 27 wins against just six Spurs wins and 19 of the matches ending up in a draw.

Chelsea will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. The Blues have managed to keep 21 clean sheets against Spurs, a joint record having achieved the same feat against Newcastle United and Everton. Eden Hazard, who has failed to hit the mark in the last four consecutive Premier League matches, will be hoping this will be the venue to rediscover his goalscoring against the local rivals. Manager Maurizio Sarri who has been the architect of a new Chelsea will also be hoping Alvaro Morata keeps up his fantastic form with three goals in his last three Premier League matches after a lean spell.

Prediction: Spurs to win or draw. The draw looks a safe bet but we have a feeling that the England effect will boost Spurs to hand Maurizio Sarri his first Premier League defeat. Harry Kane to shine and grab the first goal.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Our match of the day is the late Saturday kick-off, before that there are six fixtures and an action-packed Sunday with the highlight being Arsenal squaring off with Bournemouth. Monday night’s game is between Burnley and Newcastle United. Let’s take a look at these games.

Brighton v Leicester

  • Venue: Amex Stadium
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 19/10 D: 11/5 A: 6/4

About the Game:

Brighton will be looking to come back from two defeats in their last two fixtures. The English Ibrahimović, Glenn Murray, has five goals in his five Premier League home matches this season, goals that have been worth seven points to his team. He, however, has a poor scoring record against Leicester drawing blanks in seven matches.

Leicester City are aiming to extend a three-match unbeaten run and claim a third successive clean sheet. The Foxes won both matches last season by the same 2 – 0 scoreline, all goals by four different players. The team seems more focused than ever as they continue to mourn their Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. The team have been praised for their unity and we predict a good team showing in a comfortable win.

Prediction: Leicester win & Under 2.5 – Brighton have had a poor scoring record against The Foxes, this will continue in this away win.

Fulham v Southampton

  • Venue: Craven Cottage
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 6/4 D: 12/5 A: 17/10

About the Game:

Fulham have just appointed Claudio Ranieri as head coach hoping he will make an instant impact at Craven Cottage with his side sitting bottom of the table. The team has lost just one of their last 14 home league matches against Southampton. They come to this fixture with a six-match losing streak and hope the “Tinker Man” can bring some stability to the club.

Southampton are targeting a first victory in nine Premier League matches. Southampton won the last fixture against Fulham in February 2014 but have found goals hard to come by, failing to score in six games. This could be the ideal fixture in that respect, Fulham are yet to keep a clean sheet in this campaign.

Prediction: Both teams to score – We think Fulham will win this game with the new manager bringing belief but Fulham’s defence won’t make it a comfortable game for Fulham fans.

Everton v Cardiff City

  • Venue: Goodison Park
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/9 D: 10/3 A: 13/2

About the Game:

Everton are aiming to pick up from where they left off before the International break with three wins in the last five and an important draw against Chelsea. They are unbeaten in the last eight top-flight home matches against Cardiff, winning the last three by an aggregate score of 15 – 5.

Cardiff have had a good run winning two crucial matches and are now bidding to step out of the relegation zone. However, their last win against the Toffees dates back to December 1956. Cardiff have scored fewer goals away than any other side.

Prediction: Everton win and both teams to score – no – The Toffees to comfortably see off The Bluebirds at home. England’s Jordan Pickford to keep a clean sheet.

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace Form Guide LLLDL
  • Venue: Old Trafford
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Lee Mason
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 2/5 D: 7/2 A: 7/1

About the Game:

Manchester United have a chance to bounce back from a derby defeat against neighbours Manchester City. They have a commanding record against Crystal Palace, playing 18 Premier League matches without a loss. Romelu Lukaku is under pressure and will look forward to this clash, he has scored in six of his last eight encounters with Palace. Antony Martial has been in good form recently with six goals in the last five Premier League matches. United currently sit in eighth place.

Crystal Palace will be hoping former Manchester United man Wilfred Zaha is in his best form. The Ivory Coast midfielder has 3 goals in 10 appearances this season. Palace will be seeking their first victory in eight league matches and their first in the Premier League win against Manchester United.

Prediction: Both teams to score and United to win – We expect United to scoop a victory this week, we are accustomed to their routine wins after suffering defeats. Both teams will find the back of the net and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Zaha scored for Palace.

Watford v Liverpool

  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Jonathan Moss
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 5/1 D: 16/5 A: 8/15

About the Game:

Watford who are seventh in the table will be hoping to improve their recent form after enjoying a flying start to the campaign. Newcastle claimed a vital 1-0 win against them and they were held to a 1-1 draw in their last league game against Southampton. This fixture has never yielded a goalless draw in the 22 top-flight meetings between the sides.

Liverpool will be out for blood and will be hoping that Manchester City drop points so they can reclaim their position at the top of the table. Mo Salah is starting to look back to his best with six goals to his name, just two behind top scorer, Sergio Aguero. The Egyptian is likely to be a fantasy football favourite this weekend as he has been directly involved in six goals in the last two Premier League matches against Watford (five goals and one assist).

Prediction: Over 3.5, a fixture that usually produces lots of goals and this one will be no different.

West Ham v Manchester City

  • Venue: London Stadium
  • Saturday 24 November 15:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 10/1 D: 5/1 A: 1/4

About the Game:

21-year-old Issa Diop has been impressive so far for West Ham and the youngster has promised more, he may well need to with the visit of Manchester City. Historically The Hammers struggle against City with just one win in fifteen encounters, that coming in September 2015. Up-front new kid on the block Felipe Anderson seems to have a good understanding with Marko Arnautovic who is likely to be West Ham’s major goal threat.

The Champions are unbeaten in the League and come into this fixture with five consecutive wins under their belt. The team has been in great form despite the absence of Kevin De Bruyne with David Silva picking up the battalion for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Spaniard has been directly involved in eight goals in the last eleven matches against West Ham (4 goals and 4 assists). Sergio Aguero leapt to the top of the top scorer board with his eighth goal of the season against Manchester United and is still City’s main man upfront.

Prediction: Man City to win both halves. The Champions have been scoring for fun and were too strong for Manchester United in their last game. This looks like another routine goal fest for the reigning Premier League winners

Bournemouth v Arsenal
Bournemouth Form Guide LLWWD

  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Sunday 25 November 13:30
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 23/10 D: 14/10 A: 1/1

About the Game:

Bournemouth are sixth in the Premier League table, suffering a slump after succumbing to two consecutive losses. Eddie Howe’s side won the last fixture against Arsenal and will be hoping Callum Wilson, who has scored in all three appearances against Arsenal, can keep up this incredible record.

The first game on Sunday will give Arsenal a chance to bounce back from a home draw against Wolves. The Gunners had been on an impressive run but now are on a three match winless streak in the Premier League. Unai Emery has transformed Arsenal into a lethal team and they are starting to look like realistic challengers for trophies. This on paper looks like an easy win for this Arsenal side but they will be worried about injury scares to the fantastic attacking duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Prediction: Arsenal to win in the second half (first half draw)– The Gunners have scored seven goals via substitutes more than any other team with six of the last ten goals scored by subs.

Wolves v Huddersfield

  • Venue: Molineux
  • Sunday 25 November 16:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/9 D: 29/10 A: 15/2

About the Game:

Wolves came close to winning at the Emirates against Arsenal but settled for a 1 – 1 draw. They will be at home hoping to secure their first win in five. Much of Wolves hopes will be that Matt Doherty, who has created 10 chances for their main man Raul Jimenez, keep up this blossoming bromance.

Huddersfield are unbeaten in their last two outings and have been victorious in 10 of the last 12 meetings against Wolves, winning the last three by a 1–0 score line. A -16 goal difference tells the tale of a defensive line that is struggling, mid-table Wolves may exploit these fragilities.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals – Both teams have been lacking quality in front of goal with the last three fixtures between the two sides ending with just a solitary goal deciding the pair.

Burnley v Newcastle
Burnley Form Guide DLLLD

  • Venue: Turf Moor
  • Monday 26 November 20:00
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 9/5 D: 21/10 A: 13/8

About the Game:

Burnley will be looking for their first victory in six Premier League matches against a side that are tied with them on nine points but Newcastle are ahead on point difference. Burnley have won just one of their last eight Premier League home matches when they hammered AFC Bournemouth 4 – 0 and this will be a great opportunity to set this record straight.

Newcastle stormed out of the relegation zone by winning two of their last matches. This has built a sense of confidence in Rafa Benitez and they now have a chance to go further on top against a fairly matched opponent

Prediction: A draw would be a fair result. This could be a game with lots of opportunities with attacking intent from both sides. A 2-2 wouldn’t be impossible.
