Premier League Matchday 08 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2019/20

It’s week eight of the EPL, and after another great round of football last week, the teams will preparing to go into battle once more.

There were no big shocks and all the teams expected to win did so. The biggest win came courtesy of Leicester who are looking increasingly likely to mount a top-four challenge as the season goes on.

Match of the Day

There aren’t many stand out fixtures this weekend, and we could have chosen Liverpool v Leicester in this spot. However, an intriguing matchup will be Arsenal v Bournemouth and is a game we will focus on in this match of the week preview.

Arsenal v Bournemouth

  • Venue: Emirates Stadium
  • Sunday 6 October 15:00
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 4/9 D: 15/4 A: 6/1

About the Game:

Arsenal are heading into this game in the top four, yet they have only won one of the past five PL games. Their Europa League performance will give them encouragement, but they really need to step it up in the league if they want to qualify for the CL next season.

The Bournemouth team seam as though they arrive at the perfect time. Arsenal have won all five of the previous home matches against the Cherries and will want their 100% record to continue. Mesut Ozil will most likely not feature, having once again not made Emery’s midweek squad, as the Arsenal manager does not seem to rate him.

Bet on Arsenal v Bournemouth at Ladbrokes

Bournemouth have the chance to overtake the Gunners, but they will face a tough task. Even so, Callum Wilson likes playing against Arsenal and has three goals in four appearances against them, and has scored in four consecutive league games. So watch out for him!

So far, Bournemouth have had an eventful start to the season. In every match they have both scored and conceded providing a lot of ups and downs for their fans. Their away form is pretty good, with two wins in three, so they could provide a decent challenge this weekend, it just depends which Arsenal side shows up.

Prediction: Arsenal to win – It could be a tricky game, but we think the Gunners have just enough to pull this one out of the bag.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Here’s our previews and betting tips for all the rest of the weekend’s action.

Brighton v Tottenham

  • Venue: American Express Community Stadium
  • Saturday 05 October 12:30
  • Referee: Jon Moss
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 14/5 D: 13/5 A: 19/20

About the Game:

Brighton are on a downward spiral and have only won once all season. What’s more, their form is truly dreadful, with no wins in five. They have also only managed five goals all season, and are really struggling. It seems like a perfect team for Tottenham to come up against and bears all the hallmarks of a banana skin!

How long can Poch last? Their midweek 2-7 drubbing was an embarrassment, and the players certainly do not look like showing up for Spurs. They desperately need a win in this one, and normally it would be a shoe. Although we are backing them this weekend, we are certainly not sure if they can really pull it off.

Prediction: Tottenham to win – Pochettino needs this to save his job. Which Spurs will show up?

Burnley v Everton

  • Venue: Turf Moor
  • Saturday 05 October 15:00
  • Referee: Graham Scott
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 15/8 D: 23/10 A: 6/4

About the Game:

Burley sit in 11th and are looking to win their third home game of the season. They are playing well, and are looking to progress further up the table. These two sides haven’t drawn in 10 PL meetings, so we expect another outright winner in this one.

Everton haven’t won away this season, and Marco Silva really doesn’t know how to get his team performing to the best of their ability. There are quality players at his disposal, but the fact he doesn’t know how to play to Moise Kean’s strengths sums it up. We don’t expect Everton to win in this one.

Prediction: Burnley to win – A difficult one to predict, but the Toffees’ away form suggests only one outcome.

Liverpool v Leicester

  • Venue: Anfield
  • Saturday 05 October 15:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 4/9 D: 15/4 A:6/1

About the Game:

This is probably the best game taking place on Saturday and represents Liverpool’s toughest test of the season. Even so the Reds have been utterly dominant in the league so far with seven wins in a row. Their squad is at full fitness and they truly are the best team in the league so far.

Leicester have also had a very nice start to the season and find themselves in third place. Their away form has been indifferent with one win, one draw, and one loss combined. They have some encouraging news with James Maddison available again after an ankle knock. It will nevertheless be a tough game for the Foxes.

Prediction: Liverpool to Win – Their 43 home match unbeaten run continues with victory in this one.

Norwich City v Aston Villa
Norwich City Form Guide DWDDL
Aston Villa Form Guide LDLDW
  • Venue: Carrow Road
  • Saturday 05 October 15:00
  • Referee: Andy Madley
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 11/8 D: 13/5 A: 9/5

About the Game:

This game already feels very important in relation to the PL relegation battle. Both teams are separated by one point, and despite a big win early in the season Norwich have managed just one more victory with five losses on top. Pukki’s goals have dried up and they are heading in one direction.

Aston Villa have lost all of their away matches so far, and they really need to improve that form if they are to stay up. They have played some nice football, although they would much rather have points than plaudits. Tyrone Mings could be back in contention after picking up a calf strain and this could be a much needed boost.

Prediction: Norwich to win – A much needed home win for the Canaries to put some space between them and the relegation zone.

Watford v Sheffield United
Watford Form Guide WLWWD

  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 05 October 15:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 21/20 D: 12/5 A: 13/5

About the Game:

Watford are the worst team in the PL so far this season. They still haven’t managed to win, and have looked pretty woeful in the process. The are already four points off from safety, and are really struggling. They need wins badly, and this is the kind of game they have to win.

Sheffield United have performed better than expected so far. They haven’t lost away from home and are really playing with a lot of spirit. All of their goals have been scored by different players and there seems to be good unity between the squad. It looks as though they could stay up this season with grit and determination alone.

Prediction: Sheffield United to win – until Watford show otherwise it will be very tough to back them due to the way they have played.

West Ham United v Crystal Palace
West Ham United Form Guide LLLLL
Crystal Palace Form Guide DWDWW
  • Venue: London Stadium
  • Saturday 05 October 17:30
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 19/20 D: 13/5 A: 14/5

About the Game:

Both teams are on a decent run, and West Ham haven’t lost in the league since the opening day of the season. They have only conceded four goals in six games, and have won the last three PL London derbies. They haven’t lost to the Eagles in their past four home games and this could put the tie in their favour.

Palace will be without their captain, Luka Milivojevic, who is suspended after collecting five yellow cards on the season. They have picked up some decent results, but have only managed two away goals all season. If they concede, they will lose.

Prediction: West Ham to win – They are playing well at home an will get one over their London rivals.

Manchester City v Wolves
Manchester City Form Guide WDLDD
Wolves Form Guide WWWLW
  • Venue: Etihad Stadium
  • Sunday 06 October 14:00
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 1/8 D: 8/1 A: 20/1

About the Game:

Man City are a ruthless team and their home form is incredible. In the last 44 PL home games, they have only failed to score once, and have managed a whopping 142 goals in that time frame. They are truly a phenomenal team. They may be missing Kevin de Bruyne who picked up an injury in the previous game.

Wolves go their first win of the season in the league last week,a lbeit against an abject Watford side. They haven’t won away all season and we don’t expect that to change this season. This will be a game where they are looking to keep the score down, purely to help their goal difference at the end of the season.

Prediction: Man City +1 Handicap – City are going to win this one, it is just a question of by how much.

Southampton v Chelsea
Southampton Form Guide LDDDW
Chelsea Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium
  • Sunday 06 October 14:00
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 3/1 D: 14/5 A: 17/20

About the Game:

Southampton have found very little home comfort this season, with one draw and two defeats to their name. They are in danger of becoming embroiled in a relegation battle and need to start scoring more goals. They’ll be hoping Danny Ings can reignite his faltering career and get into double figures this season.

Chelsea’s youthful team continue to win plaudits with their impressive displays. Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have both become key players and show what can happen when you give the youngsters a chance. Chelsea have scored in their past 14 of 15 away games, and will most likely add to that tally at the weekend.

Prediction: Chelsea to win – A difficult game for the Blues, but a victory nonetheless.

Newcastle v Manchester United
Newcastle Form Guide DDWLL
Manchester United Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: St James’ Park
  • Sunday 06 October 16:30
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance OddsH: 7/2 D: 5/2 A: 17/20

About the Game:

This is the kind of match that will bore you to tears. But then again, Mike Dean is in charge so there’s bound to be some talking points surrounding his antics. Newcastle haven’t won in their past five games, and still remain winless at home in the PL this season. Man Utd are probably the perfect team to face to fix this problem.

Watching Ole Gunnar’s men continually fail is so excruciatingly painful. This once great side has been reduced to negative football, and hoping to scrape a win here and there. They are still living off their name, but Man United are well and truly a mid-table team. We wouldn’t be surprised if they finished 7th or 8th this season.

Prediction: Draw – Both teams are boring to watch, and this will be a boring game.
